I think it's funny how in the past couple of decades christians started trying to play the victim all of the sudden. Atheists tend to have an outright disgust for you because you've been trying to harass, persecute, and legislate against us for centuries. I personally have no issue whatsoever with anybody having a religion and believing whatever they want, but when they use our government as a means to enforce that religion, it becomes a problem that we're not going to ignore.
First of all, I wasn't even aware I was doing all those things. I'm better at multi-tasking than I thought. As far as using my religion to inform my politics, yes, I do that. Just as others base decisions like that on their own sense of morals and ethics. That does not make me worse for doing what everybody else does. I mean certainly, you can understand why I would be hesitant to trust an atheist in office if, as you say, you all have disgust for me. Would you all want to outlaw my participation in politics if you could? I mean, it sounds like you believe I deserve at least that much. Oh and about the billboards, I don't mind them. Actually they just reinforce my faith. Just don't try to sell me on this idea that atheism is about a simple lack of belief when it's not.

Luckily for you, atheists don't have a religion to force on you if they were in power. Christians seem to see every attempt at removing their stranglehold on the government as an attack on their religion.

Getting back to the OP, if you people want to continue having special government displays and laws, be expecting other groups to want the same. America is supposed to be about equality. Your religion is not special, and you do not have special rights.

It would be too easy for me to destroy every thought formed inside your head. Care to challenge me?

If you'd like to make a case of why christians should have special rights to make statues in front of government buildings but no one else does, go ahead.

Hell, I'll even give you your first line: "This is 'Merica god dammit! We're a christian country! If you don't like it you can get the **** out!"

I think that's the idea. They just want to do it to piss people off. There is no other explanation. And deliberately pissing other people off is what's contributing a great deal to the hassle of living in America today. It benefits no one but there you are. The adults have all fled.

Americans have been "trying to harass, persecute, and legislate against us for centuries". Really? That sounds rather serious. How is this being done?

What the militant atheists are trying to do is remove references to Christianity where they find it place it with something else that has no relation to the country, its history or its culture. This is immature posturing, the sort we would expect from from first year college students who want to rebel against the man.

Putting aside the fact that Christianity is special because the country was founded on those principles, do these other groups want something which related to America's identity, culture and tradition? Then fair enough.Show them something uplifting you may have and see how far it goes.

While I doubt that they have any real interest in building a monument, I wouldn't say that they're doing it to piss people off. My guess is that they're trying to provide perspective.

Christians make up something like 90% of the US Population. Many of them feel that Christian Iconography belongs in public buildings. They don't understand what something like the ten commandments on a courthouse says to someone who isn't a Christian.

It makes an obvious point. Religious symbols have no place in public life.

This post seems to be all bark and no bite.

So you're going for the "This is 'Merica god dammit! We're a christian country! If you don't like it you can get the **** out!" direction. Can't say I'm surprised. Sorry, but this country's government was created secular. The fact that you have a majority does not mean you get to infect our government with your bedtime stories. If 10, 20, or 30 years down the road another religion other than your own were to have a small majority of the populace, would you be alright with them taking over and making religious laws?

Ha, so we should just continue letting you guys run everything and be quiet. No thank you. We're trying to piss you off like you piss us off, by showing you that it's not nice when someone else uses the government to further their religion. It's not so fun when someone else does it, huh?

    • Adding 'in god we trust' to money in the 1860s.
    • Adding 'under god' to the pledge in the 1950s.
    • Making the national motto 'in god we trust' instead of E Pluribus Unum.
    • Many states have/had anti atheist laws or constitutions. Arkansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas.
    • Justice Scalia (2005):
“With respect to public acknowledgment of religious belief, it is entirely clear from our nation's historical practices that the Establishment Clause permits this disregard of polytheists and believers in unconcerned deities, just as it permits the disregard of devout atheists.”
Interesting that he throws the words devout and atheist together. He demonstrates his probable belief that atheism is just another religion.

      To quote Bill Maher:
Atheism is a religion like abstinence is a sex position.
To which i will add. Atheism is a religion as much as theism is a religion.
    • South Carolina Democrats back bill calling for mandatory daily prayers in public schools | The Raw Story
Muslims a re required to pray several times in a school day...hmmm. Yeah just pull out a prayer mat in the middle of class, that will fly.
    • adding 'so help me god' to the army enlisted oath in 1962.
    • officers required to say 'so help me god' since 1776.
    • the GAT of CSF which lead to mandatory counseling for 'low spirituality'
    • George Bush Sr (1987)
No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.
      in response to this question:
Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?
    • according to some polls atheists are the least trusted group in the US.

and while doing all that you let the IRS determine what qualifies as a religion, which is truly a bizarre thing.
