Risk of Super Volcano eruption big enough to 'affect the world' far greater than thou

Re: Risk of Super Volcano eruption big enough to 'affect the world' far greater than

Yeah, but where?

When it happens, we're ****ed for a while. What are you going to do? Move off the Earth?

What, you don't have an underground volcano proof bunker?

:scared:

I hear Mars is nice in the spring:mrgreen:

It's actually warmer there than it is here right now....Antarctica too.

Card has put it at ten generations out, we're good.

The eruption of a “supervolcano” hundreds of times more powerful than conventional volcanoes – with the potential to wipe out civilisation as we know it – is more likely than previously thought, a study has found.

An analysis of the molten rock within the dormant supervolcano beneath Yellowstone National Park in the United States has revealed that an eruption is possible without any external trigger, scientists said.

So what would be a "prepers" plan for this event?

As a Natural Disaster Prepper. All you could do if this scenario were to occur is hope for the best or be out of the impact area when it went down. As it stands now I am just barely outside of the ash area. That's not to say there wouldn't be some impact still if the winds moved in the right direction. Anyhow I have staples to provide for my family for a year. With lakes and hunting available I should be able to sustain us for much longer. With my new purchase of a home in the woods, all I have to do is make it until this May and I will be secluded enough that it's unlikely to be attacked by mauraders. I am on a well and surrounded by lakes so I should have sufficient water, although boiling it may be in order. My neighbors are mostly like minded people so building a community again wouldn't be that difficult and pooling resources should prove to be a positive. Health would be the only unforseeable issue. Really don't know what to expect as far as health concerns since I am not in the blast zone or the ash field. Something I should research I suppose. I guess another issue would be that my new home is close to the New Madrid Fault. Not sure if it is possible but an explosion of the magnitude could set off that fault as well, again I don't know for sure. All I do know for sure is I will do what ever is needed to keep my family as safe as I can. The rest is left up to fate I guess.

If it turns out to be just eight generations I'll admit I was wrong. Happy?

Los Angeles is getting covered in lava. Figures.

Yeah not a good place to be if this ever went down, that's for sure. Again not sure any place in the US would be in good shape, but I for sure wouldn't want to be on the West Coast if it does.

I'll be in the Antarctica mid February so if the current cold trend continues...then it'll be like summer there. Wait...it is summer there.

Very true, it is. Summer being a relative term. Don't pack your bathing suit.

I'll remember that when I visit my aunt in Santa Barbara this spring. :)

Guns and ammo! I never thought about that as a protection from a volcano. :)

They may not stop the volcano, but guns and ammo might decide whether or not you have food to eat after the volcano.

Yeah, I know what he meant.

Eastern Washington state or above, build solid underground, make your own atmosphere that vents out, have a well inside that accesses known underground water with filtration, a huge diesel store and generators with backup, indoor growing using aquaponics and a ton of supplies (anything you can't make or grow yourself). Finally, make sure you have plenty of toilet paper, nothing makes the apocaulpse worse than running out of TP.
