You misread the whole article. 99% of the article described what supervolcanoes do, how they erupt, history of past explosions, what conditions would need to be met for it to explode, and only finished it up with "but it ain't gonna happen for a hell of a long time." And that's because the article was alarmism. The writer wanted you to click on the scary sounding headline, and you did.

It would appear that it worked on you, too! I have been reading studies on this caldera for years and I completely disagree with your characterization of the work. But it's probably the first time you've heard of it.

Yeah, you got me there, but at least I could tell after reading it that it was manipulative sensationalism.

Of course not. Supervolcanoes, like any other end-of-the-world scenario, have been in the media forever.

Yep, that's pretty much the article in a nutshell.

Again your misrepresenting the science, nowhere did it say end of the world, not even in the title you claim to be sensational. And having been in the media "forever" is laughable hyperbole. This volcano is 50,000 years overdue. In geological time it's a wink. What's the matter Card, bored this morning with the other threads, the other kids late to class?

Guns and ammo! I never thought about that as a protection from a volcano.
