Is this dude for real, I assume he's included.

Appearing on Fox News Channel on Sunday, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) dismissed members of Congress calling for the National Security Agency to reform its information gathering practices. He insisted that even members of Congress should be monitored by the NSA, just like every other American, in case they are “talking to an Al Qaeda leader in Iraq or Afghanistan.” Read full coverage

Peter King is a Congressman who's OK on some issues, and absolutely bug**** nuts on terrorism and surveillance.

I think that might be the best way to go. I would want to see an analysis, but the idea is basically good. Every minute of any higher8level politician or civil servants should be taped. Missing minutes should make the official have to prove his case.

You're probably serious.

You're probably serious.

Was that the educated guess?

;)

Like they aren't being monitored already.

Well of course, but, that's somewhat beside the point. What exactly does Peter King mean by this? Is he publicly stating that this branch of government can't be trusted? Should the NSA monitor the presidents phone, what about his own, the SCOTUS. And who monitors the monitors, and do the monitors monitor each other?

Actually it wasn't profound. Peter King wasn't suggesting it begin, he's insisting that the practice continue, that Ed Snowden's a traitor for revealing that it exists, the NYTimes is his accomplice for supporting him and Paul and Sanders are nuts.

What he means is, since the rest of America is monitored, why should Congress be exempt? If it's in the realm of possibility that any American citizen can be colluding with Al Qaida, why isn't it also possible that someone from Congress is doing the same? Therefore... if the logic works for the American people as a segment of society it also works with Congress as a subset of American society.

But I don't even buy the premise. So, does his phone get monitored too? And, is there no such thing as a private conversation anymore?

King's position also proves that the metadata storyline is bull**** too! It proves that content is being monitored and digested as well to determine whether or not a representative is colluding with al Qaeda or not. But then some of us have known that already.

Sure - home, work, everything. Does the NSA differentiate with the American public between work and home?

I don't recall from other threads, are you ok with the NSA domestic surveillance of all phones.

He's right. We already know that John McCain uses his security clearance to meet with officials in Al-Qaeda in order to give them classified information.

Any reason you couldn't supply a Fox link?

Apparently FOX is reluctant to shed light on the moron, perhaps embarrassed by this republicans position.

I just like to point out that I am in no way this guy, I am not a republican or a senator and I did not say this. ;)

But I do agree, what happens to the general public should also go for the members of congress/senate and all members of the government.

That is funny Peter! And, yes there should be no double standard between Washington and citizen and in this case, per the fourth amendment both should be spared UNREASONABLE search and seizure!!
