The New York Times tells Obama to stop vilification of Snowden because he's a whistle

The New York Times Editorial Board is out with an opinion piece in support of ex-NSA contractor Edward Snowden, wherein they call him a "whistleblower" and ask the president to stop vilifying him for exposing wrongdoings within the U.S. intelligence community. “If the concern was that som...... Mornin' Monte Yeah.....and they ask a whole lot more than to stop vilifying him. Seems not all agree with the NY Times.

The board writes that Snowden should be allowed to return home and be granted a plea bargain, "some form of clemency" or reduced punishment for doing his country "a great service."

The Times goes on to note a number of revelations pushed into public view, including Intelligence Chief James Clapper's perjury in front of congress which was confirmed by Snowden's leaks, and a judge ruling phone-records-collection as likely unconstitutional that's "almost Orwellian."

The editorial board of The Times hasn't been too kind to the Obama administration in the wake of Snowden's disclosures. In October, they ripped into the White House as "pathetic" for its continued defense of the NSA.

The Times is wrong . Snowden plainly does not fit the definition of a Whistleblower, despite the constant attempts of some to subvert the term to their liking.

A-351, He has blown the whistle on the NSA bringing to the attention of many, very troubling activity. People from across party lines and all walks of life are condemning it. Politicians are calling for reform, ex-presidents have expressed their dislike for it, and then there are those in other countries who have expressed their anger, one countries leader giving the US a shake down at the UN, another giving our president a tongue lashing on the phone. Many countries papers are abuzz with criticisms for the US over this. It has certainly caused a global conversation and while it has generally embarrassed the government and specifically the NSA. No disclosures have compromised national security. Might you prefer we called him a horn blower and not co-opt a term you think doesn't fit?
