Chinese recycling tycoon says he wants to buy the New York Times

BEIJING, Dec 31 (Reuters) - An eccentric Chinese recycling magnate said on Tuesday he was preparing to open negotiations to buy the New York Times Co..

Chen Guangbiao, a well-known philanthropist, is something of a celebrity in China. During a particularly murky bout of pollution in January, the ebullient and tireless self-promoter handed out free cans of "fresh air".

But Chen says he is perfectly serious in his bid to buy the Times, which he said he had been contemplating for more than two years. He said he expected to discuss the matter on Jan. 5, when he is due to meet a "leading shareholder" in New York.

This is a positive development, if it works, perhaps we'll see more accurate reporting like CCTV,

There's nothing wrong with foreigners buying stuff. It's a free market.

Do you object to foreign investment in the US?

You think an eccentric Chinese recycling magnate will bring about more accurate reporting, why again?

He might give us some help with that propaganda Hillary was talking about.

Whether more accurate or not might be another thing, but it is good to get information diversity? RT or zdf are, to take but obvious examples, not exactly unbiased. But they do give you alternative viewpoints.

Considering the Chinese expertise in propaganda, their taking over the operations of the NYT would surely ensure the paper's storied history of never letting the facts get in the way of their political message.

edit: that may be too Canadian for some, but look it up.
