Whatever liar. Everyone can now see you are a liar.

You got it wrong, Obama is the liar. In fact he made liar of the year.

Ah I see, so when Obama lies it is a lie, but when you lie it's "a bad assumption". Got it liar.

Re: 10,988,269: 2013 Closes With Record Number on Disability Getting Highest-Ever Mon

7.4 million were on diability in January 2009

So 3.5 million have been added to the roles since then. Some in this thread touting its 3% of our population, but in January 2009 it wasn't 3% but more like 2.4%. Now I'm not blaming the loser human in the oval office that I can't stand one bit, for I don't know why we have 3.5 million more enrollies in disability programs today than we did when he took office, but its not disputable that we do.

Thats what I am wondering too. What did the Obama Administration do to increase the number of Americans on disability? Did Obama make people get into serious accidents? Did he make people spend decades of their lives not taking care of themselves, not eating right, not exercising and thus ending up with heart failure or adult onset diabetes? Did he give people cancer and thus land them on disability when they were too sick to work?

With all this outrage surely they can point to some policy by the current admin that lead to this. I would wager that the majority of people on disability are in red states. In fact, of the top 5 states for people on disability, they are all southern red states:

5 states with the most people on disability- MSN Money

Re: 10,988,269: 2013 Closes With Record Number on Disability Getting Highest-Ever Mon

(CNSNews.com) - The total number of people in the United States now receiving federal disability benefits hit a record 10,988,269 in December, up from the previous record of 10,982,920 set in November, according to newly released data from the Social Security Administration.

The average monthly benefit paid to a disabled worker also hit a record of $1,146.43 in December, up from a previous high of $1,130.34 in December of last year.

Spouses of disabled workers also got a record average monthly benefit of $308.13 in December, up from a previous high of $304.31 in August. Children of disabled workers also received a record average monthly benefit of $341.42 in December, up from a previous high of $337.13 in May.

As CNSNews.com reported earlier this month, the number of Americans getting disability benefits now exceeds the entire population of Greece, which is 10,772,967, according to the CIA World Factbook.

So what do you propose we do with all those people that are disabled?

Seriously? I hope this isn't anything for than contrived outrage as this is a non-issue.

You really need to stay away from these political porn sites. They are just there to stimulate you (your anger) and help you keep it up (your blood pressure)... most of the stuff is either full fantasy or shot with a distorted lens.

It stands to reason that those drawing disability would be at an all time high: the US population is at an all-time high and we are getting older. The idea that the average benefit is at an all time high also somewhat stands to reason, as costs go up. That is if you really could call a $16.09 increase over a $1,134.34 base a real increase... its less than 1.5%.

Baby boomers aging into their 50s and early 60s is the problem. You got this huge generation of people that ushered in the obesity epidemic in America as well as just the general decline in fitness in this country that are now getting old enough for all their poor health choices to come how to roost. I am not sure what we do about that though. We can more aggressively go after fraud, but that is probably only going to cut away at the margins of the problem.

Re: 10,988,269: 2013 Closes With Record Number on Disability Getting Highest-Ever Mon

I can see the aging population impacting social security payees but this increase seems to be more than just that. I am not saying what it is because I do not know. The little personal experience I see with it is thru the VA. There I see able bodied Vets getting disability in large sums for "injuries" I can't see but I guess must exist. One complainer said he only gets $4k a month "how am I suppose to live" and I kind a wanted to choke him out.

Personally, I'd like to see harsh penalties, not only for people committing fraud, but the doctors, lawyers and such who knowingly help people defraud the system.

Re: 10,988,269: 2013 Closes With Record Number on Disability Getting Highest-Ever Mon

Over the past ten years, almost 3 million men and women have served in Iraq and Afghanistan thanks to both Bush, who started the wars, and Obama, who promised to get us out immediately, but didn't. Of those who didn't come home in body bags, hundreds of thousands of them came home with traumatic, permanent injuries. So how can anyone be surprised that the number of people on disability has continued to rise? Add to that an aging population, and yes, you're gonna have a rise in people who are unable to work and support themselves.

Nobody in their right mind... and nobody in this thread... has ever supported disability fraud. That's nothing more than a bunch of disingenuous huffing and puffing to cover up the real motive behind the hatred of disability payments, or any kind of payment to individuals who are unable to support themselves... which is that a substantial percentage of America's population thinks that once a person can no longer contribute to society, they should be placed on the nearest curb for trash pickup and immediate disposal.

Oddly enough, the people who feel that way are almost always well off financially and healthy as horses. Lucky them. If I was in charge of the world, folks, karma would be a bitch... a bitch with an empty checkbook and a hearty ho-ho-ho when they find themselves sitting on that curb, waiting for pickup.

Re: 10,988,269: 2013 Closes With Record Number on Disability Getting Highest-Ever Mon

It's 3% of the population, for gawd's sake. You think this is the biggest fish to fry?

SSDI is now slated to go broke in 2016. It's not the biggest fish to fry (the biggest fish is Medicare), but it is definitely the Alligator Closest to the Boat.

Heck, I can bet the DoD flushes more taxpayer money in one freakin' week.

SSDI costs $144 Billion in 2013.

DOD cost $525 Billion in 2013.

Furthermore, DOD's costs are going down while SSDI's are rapidly climbing.

And BTW, as the population increases, so does the number of people on disability. The numbers have been steadily increasing for the last 40 years.

That is incorrect. The numbers on SSDI increase in bursts, which roughly correlate with economic downturns. In short, SSDI is used as a stand-in for permanent welfare in the post-welfare-reform era (which limited TANF by making it TANF), and so people use it as an alternative to work.

Like I wrote, so freakin' what.

 It's going to cause an earlier entitlement collapse. Once upon a time, people on the left cared about that sort of thing.

What utter and complete balderdash and spiteful bigotry. People are capable of disagreeing with you without being immoral or stupid, Di - and you only insult yourself when you forget that, not them.

Re: 10,988,269: 2013 Closes With Record Number on Disability Getting Highest-Ever Mon

the problem is that SS was meant for retirement. one of the biggest reasons that it is in trouble is that they have allowed more and more people to pull out of the fund that
aren't retired. disability is one of those things. it has caused more people to pull out of the fund than what should be.

that is one of the biggest reasons that SS is going bankrupt. there are only 1.5-2 people paying in for every one person taking out.

Hate that you're making me defend Obama here Di but to be fair he only promised to get us out of the Iraq war. Which did happen on his watch...even though the withdrawal plan came from Bush. He did state that he would stay in Afghanistan.

Seriously, Rocketman? You wanna get mad and go after the change under the couch cushions, rather than the billion upon billions wasted by your DoD?
