Since he was on TV, it should be easy to come up with the unedited video that shows what he actually said.
So the point of contention is that Billy Graham's kid and the pope are in agreement and this is divisive.......................................... ..how, exactly?

I believe it is in the tone and expectation of what comes next.

The Pope I expect is not going to be pushing against gay marriage, or push to make laws making homosexuality illegal, as many evangelical ministers due (Uganda for instance). Graham is I expect going to push to prevent homosexual marriage, and would if the public mood allowed push to make it illegal again (which by law it is in some states I believe, the act not just being)

If God's word doesn't change what was the message that Jesus Christ brought to the world?

My wife and I saw that interview this morning. 'Son of' said a bit more than the not the judge thing. He went on to claim he couldn't turn a blind eye/wink at or some such phrase- to homosexuality as it is a sin.

I understand that, but adulterers are not turned away. It has always been a tenant of the New Evangelical Faith that we are all sinners and only through accepting Jesus as our lord and savior can we ever hope to gain the Kingdom of Heaven.

I'd say no one is asking religious leaders to accept homosexuality unconditionally, but if the Religious Right doesn't actively deny rights to adulterers, or folks who are not Christians, Jews do get to marry, then perhaps they can let gay folks pursue Life Liberty and Happiness in the secular world.

A 2003 SCOTUS ruling reversed its previous ruling of Bowers v. Hardwick(1986) with Lawrence v. Texas which invalidated all sodomy laws.

The Church's teaching on homosexuality won't change. The Pope has done a good job of confusing people about this fact. Some dislike it, others love it, some like myself simply shrug it off. Unfortunately not enough people know the Church's teaching on this which would encourage dialogue.

If I were to let my cynical side take complete control, I'd say the Pope's position is simply a matter of "If you're gay? C'mon down, we'll take your money, but just so you know, you're still going to Hell..."

Fortunately I rarely allow myself to get so cynical. I think it's a matter of "Come, join in the celebration of Christ, you're the one who has to answer for what you've done and what you do."

Unfortunately, as has been shown, this usually gives individuals a false sense of entitlement, like the liberties they take regarding contraception and abortion, to try and change the Church as they see fit. They want to conform the Church to their view of things rather than conform themselves to the Church's.

    That I can't abide.

A preacher says something the Libbos don't like and he's a "hate filled loser".

Be sure and get back with us when gay marriage is officially recognized by the Vatican.
