A Facebook page dedicated to defense of Phil Robertson of “Duck Dynasty” has received well over 400,000 likes since it was launched just 14 hours ago. The page was created late on Wednesday evening, after news broke that A&E was suspending Robertson over his comments on homosexuality.

1.4 million "Likes," including mine, and counting. I tried to find a "mainstream media" headline that made a direct reference to this phenomenon but had to settle for Breitbart.com.

How many of them clicked "like" because they were forwarded that image with an inaccurate quote that made it look like A&E was firing him for basically nothing?

Considering the intellect prowess of most of them, I certainly wouldn't underestimate the number.

That people watch that show tells enough about their followers.

1.4 million bible thumpers, bigots and rednecks showing their support for the hatred of gays. Why would anyone be surprised?

Well A&E did basically firing him over nothing.

No it is not.

There's only one real reason people should be pissed off at A&E.

That reason would be airing feces-laden shows like Duck Dynasty in the first place.

Well A&E is basically firing him over nothing.

No it is not.

A & E ****canned him in what they saw as their best interest. It was a business decision and they're looking out for their ratings.

Yes, and by all reports because of a false comparison.
He did not compare gays to those who commit bestiality.

Secondly, apparently it wasn't in their best interest.

Which still does not support your absurd assertion.

Its funny watching the liberals scream here; I wonder how many of them wanted Baldwins' head on the same platter?

Congrats to the promoters of the Duck Dynasty. Make the most of it and "Duck A&E"

BTW 24 hours and they have more likes than obamascare has in sign ups in 80 days.

He associated their network with statements that could cost them money. Not a wise decision.

It's absurd to think A&Es decision was made in A&Es interests? ....what?

The particular problem for the TV industry is that it's trying to profit off the same cultural tensions it's exploiting by making curiosities out of them. That inevitably leads to problems because if A&E wants the Robertson's to make money for the channel by being authentic, then at some point A&E has to accept they may have controversial views.

A&E has been very careful in editing and presenting this family, but they can't control what they say outside of the show. The executives and PR handlers have had to get very good at backpedaling away from uncomfortable realities.

A&E must tread carefully in bringing him back to the show lest the network appear self-serving and hypocritical.

No he didn't.

He represented it as his own opinion and not once did he say A&E supported it.

Doesn't matter. It was a publicity article about the show. They were associated whether they wanted to be or not.

Wtf?
You having problems following?

The reason he was fired was over a false representation.
He did not compare gay folks to those who commit bestiality.

That is one point.
The second point was; Apparently it wasn't in their best interest.
That comment is in reference to the outpouring of support to him and against A&E.

Try learning how to follow so it doesn't have to be explained to you.

Wrong. It was his personal beliefs being spoken about. Not the shows, it's creator, or the network.
They are not, and were not damaged by his personal beliefs.
Especially as most folks are apparently capable of separating a person personal beliefs with those which a network supports.
Well, that is except those of GLADD.

And the outpouring of support for him and against A&E shows that.

Didn't Baldwin get fired from MSNBC? There was also no Liberals supporting him.

You seem to have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and terrible at making comparisons.

As a Catholic I was raised to love the sinner but dislike the sin. Apparently that doesn't work for A&E or the haters around here.

Not having a Facebook pays off again.

I don't know if Baldwin was fired, never hired, or what - don't really care to be honest. The point is leftist were not around calling for his head like the Duck dude - who by the way didn't even use a slur.

As I recall we all pretty much wanted MSNBC to can Baldwin. I guess you're getting too old to remember anything that doesn't fit your meme about others.

This is interesting. ‘Duck Dynasty’ star Phil Robertson appears to verbally attack gay people in newly emerged video - NY Daily News
Footage has purportedly surfaced showing the 67-year-old saying homosexuals are "ruthless," "full of murder," "arrogant" and "liable to invent ways of doing evil."
"They bow down to birds, animals and reptiles and each other and the first thing you see coming out of them is gross sexual immorality," he adds, preacher-like, on the clip.
It is in A & E's best interest to sever ties with this individual.

Yes, actually we were. And since you don't care, and don't know, and yet spout bull**** about it, it truly shows that your bias is bigger than your intellectual honesty.

He was an MSNBC host and he was fired for his comments. Not suspended...fired.

Whose calling for his head? GLAAD which is one advocacy group that is most vocal over the Duck Dynasty also criticized Baldwin.

So really...I'm not sure how there's any sort of hypocrisy taking place. Liberals didn't rally around Baldwin and protest his firing. Liberals didn't yell about free speech. Conservatives have come down defending a guy that did say homophobic comments...which is why most younger folks (and people in general) see the GOP and conservatives as homophobic (among other things)
