He won't hang on a rope, not in the UK, not anywhere in the civilized world. In the Islamic lands, he just might. Now here's what you still seem to be missing: If he is really does have a mental disorder, then he would be eligible for a not guilty by reason of insanity defense. With such a defense, he could be sentenced to a hospital for the criminally insane, and, conceivably, eventually be "cured" and released back into society.

I can't spell it out for you any simpler. We all saw the same pictures and were disgusted but the accused were taken to lower court and claimed not guilty. That's even repeated in the link you posted.

A defendant claiming not guilty then has their case taken to a higher court which is where we are at now.. and the psychiatrist you are angry at is simply pronouncing that the guy is sane and fit to stand trial.

I am certain the same process stands in the US, we gave up lynch mobs centuries ago. I thought you guys did too?

Or am I wrong?

Is not what? Different? You're not making a huge amount of sense.

These two defendants are 99.9% certain to be found guilty and sentenced to life in gaol with a minimum stipulation of 30 years, I reckon. I think most people in the UK would think that that would be a just outcome. Whether you would think it just is a matter of no concern to anyone but yourself.
 
They will put this blunt murderer in a mental hospital for 2-years, then let him out and he will do it again - then the same will happen.

That certainly seems to be what you were arguing for. Why do you want to be so lenient on murderous religious fanatics?

Yes he is 100% guilty but I am not defending his actions I am saying that the murderer Knew what he was doing rather than it being driven by a mental instability. That is what the psychiatrist was trying to say. Not that its ok to go around running over and decapitating soldiers.

You wanted him declared insane. In most jurisdictions that means that the person is committed to a secure, psychiatric facility until, if ever, cured. Civilised countries do not execute the insane.

On the one hand you want to spare these guys from taking responsibility for their actions by declaring them insane, on the other hand you want to kill them.

I can't work out whether that approach is insane, or just culpably, fanatically wrong.
