Well when everybody has to work on Christmas, cons will just come on here and scream about how libs "took the Christ out" of it and waged a "War on Christmas." By then of course, we'll all have forgotten how they were here saying they have to work Thanksgving.

Even tho I agree personally I dont believe in govt interference or corporate coercion to enforce such. Why 'should they be able to?' Who says, besides you? There arent always 'other people that want to.'

I didnt mind working some holidays as a park ranger...however I got pressured alot to work all of them because I was single and there were alot of parents...and single parents...that wanted to be with their kids. Took some seniority a yr or so in to get what I wanted but it also wasnt an entrenched profit-based environment.

They agreed to work for a company that is open on that holiday and pays them to them work.

Again, one could simply not work in retail, right? But retail is all that's hiring. 1/3 of the workers in this country work retail or food service (just another kind of retail), and climbing.

Wanna prevent the scourge of unionization? Don't treat workers like pee ons.
Some Employers are better then others. Welcome to the work force.

More and more, the larger employers are all the same. And with our countries direction currently, there only gonna be larger employers in the coming decades.

    Overpopulation is disempowering organized labor.

When there are legions of young people so desperate for any job, let alone one as cool as bagging organic groceries in a store that smells like the Garden of Eden, Whole Foods workers protesting having to work during a holiday is basically screaming "replace me!" Their wish will be granted.

    Disclaimer: I love Whole Foods.

The restaurant I worked at during college didn't open on Mondays, then they started to open on Lundi Gras(Mardi Gras eve) a holiday in my state, and guess what, we went in or worked out deals to take off, that's life. Things change, such as opening schedules and terms of work, either one can suck it up and cash the paycheck which the employer always funds and honors or they can quit.
Neither side in an argument can find the truth when both make an absolute claim on it.

    Just quit, damn it.
At that point they are risking legal charges, the store owner will probably be nice and ask them to leave first but that isn't required. It's illegal to remain after forbidden(that's a criminal misdemeanor) and it's also illegal to prohibit a legal business owner from conducting legal commerce so that's two charges right off the bat, and if the officer feels like being a jerk because he is not happy about working on his holiday, he may just issue a third charge of public disturbance. That's a lot of fines and jail time to pick up for the newly and rightfully terminated employee.
