I've already answered this question. I understand that essential workers might have to work on Thanksgiving. However, you can buy your TV on Friday, or offer a wage high enough to entice workers to want to give up a family Thanksgiving.

My statement goes way beyond the discussion at hand. It's not about simply desiring to have X day off or not. Simply put, you, me, your idiot neighbor...we're all part of the invisible hand, and most of us are poor decision makers, from a societal point of view.

Do retail workers get sub sized housing and higher edu like certain government employees? Pensions? Mandatory vaca?

Again, one could simply not work in retail, right? But retail is all that's hiring. 1/3 of the workers in this country work retail or food service (just another kind of retail), and climbing.

Wanna prevent the scourge of unionization? Don't treat workers like pee ons.

Are you going to make it illegal to work on Christmas too?

The only alternatives to the invisible hand are pure anarchy or the iron fist of socialism.

Seriously? You only see the two extremes as the options available?

Private employers offer jobs, but that does not make those employees "partners" in making their business decisions.

Then say goodbye to holidays. If employers think they can make money Christmas Day, they are going to require their hires to work Christmas Day. If you accept that retail is the fastest growing employer in the American job market, and already the largest sector currently, then you must logically accept an "end of an era" in terms of the old standard. A lowering of the quality of life, no more stories of mom and dad sitting together at thanksgiving, enjoying an uninterrupted day with whole family.

Thanksgiving and Christmas, as you know, are cultural family holidays. as i've said five hundred and forty two thousand times already in this ****ing thread, if somebody wants to spend the damned ****ing day with his or her family, they should be able to. others who want to work should be able to do that.

treating workers like **** leads to unions. corporatists hate unions like ten year olds hate brussel sprouts. want to prevent unions? treat your workers like human ****ing beings. it really doesn't take that much.

    ok, i feel better now.
An employeer cannot depend on if an employee wants to work.

What if an employee says they wat to work one week before Thanksgiving but they change their mind after being scheduled to work that day. Shoudl that employee be let off that day even if it creates a problema for the business?

If that were to happen I would never be able to buy batteries for the battery operated ítems I forgot to buy batteries for.

    It happens every year.
