MSNBC fires Baldwin over anti-gay slurs

The show's over, but it's a common slang term for the NBC studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
Guess its like the black folk using the word nigger thing, huh? If you are liberal, you can call people fags. If you are a black liberal celebrity, it should be expected. Makes about as much sense as everything else I reckon.

Thought this commentary was interesting from a liberal comedian on the HuPo...

She was trivializing slavery by making the comparison she did. Apparently he thought it fitting to illustrate how ignorant her trivialization was by essentially saying "since it's supposedly so trivial, she needs it done to her, so that she will realize it isn't so trivial". I get it. And agree with his tactic. It's like when liberals equate some conservatives with Hitler. I am sure at least some conservatives have thought, "these liberals need a little dose of concentration camp before they make that comparison again".

It's a form of hyperbole meant to squelch the idiocy of the other side.

OOOOOOOHHHH. I get it now.
So when Palin calls 'em Death Panels it's just a form of hyperbole not to be slapped with multiple Pinocchio's regardless of turning out to be essentially true.

I was explaining the "30 Rock" thing. I have no idea what you're talking about.

I'm actually having trouble understanding what the outrage is about. He got canned, so it's not like he's "getting a pass because he's a Libbo."

The "30 Rock thing" = it is commonly used slang so therefore...its cool?

No outrage...just pointing out the hypocrisy. Its not like Baldwin didnt have a prior history of using degrading homosexual terminology. Its not like others under the NBC umbrella dont have a history of it. Fact is, NBC was probably grateful for the excuse to fire him and get rid of the show because it was a turd.

Oh, I think he's a good actor. But not good enough to pretend that he's an adult who's able to control himself. The public temper tantrums are sad in a person his age. His employer apparently realized that he's too great a liability, and I hope the shock convinces Baldwin to enter into therapy for realz.

That doesn't explain, though, why that same employer hasn't disciplined Bashir for his appalling on-air comment about Sarah Palin. What hypocrisy.

Sincé in real life he is one of the most extreme left in Hollywood, and on 30 Rock he played a Reagan loving Republican, maybe it was too much for him.

Do we know if the photographer he was yelling at is gay?

Pack your bags, Alec! MSNBC fires Baldwin over anti-gay slurs | Page Six

It seems like Baldwin can't keep control over himself.

I think NBC is covering themselves with these other charges. I think he was fired for the "anti-gay" rant at the photographer.

Any ideas on this?

Is this the same MSNBC who said dick all about Martin Bashir's comments?

Guess if you attack a conservative brand, good for you - attack a liberal brand, they can't show you the door fast enough.

But that said, MSNBC knows full well they have zero conservative viewers and precious few liberal viewers so keep the only viewers you have happy - it's good business practice.

Which time? And would that matter?

This time that he was fired for.

Yes it would matter. If the man was not gay how could it be considered a gay slur if there was no gay person involved?

On that point, how long did Baldwin have the show? Usually it takes time to build up an audience and it is very rare to get cancelled for ratings so early in the shows life.

Wikipedia says it lasted for 5 episodes so I doubt it was taken off for low ratings.

How is "30 Rock" even a slur? It's a shortened version of NBC's address. So yeah, it's cool.

Whoosh....

Where did you get the impression I or anyone else didnt understand what 30 Rock was or thought that it was a slur? When I first mentioned it, it was because while employed as actors on the show 30 Rock (yes...they called 30 Rockefeller Plaza '30 Rock' even during the 70's on SNL) both Baldwin and Tracy Morgan were shown to have used derogatory slang towards homosexuals and nothing was ever done. Now suddenly its a big deal. You missed that? You really thought I was saying using the word '30 Rock' was a derogatory comment?

Some people would suggest that calling anyone (gay or straight) a faggot accompanied by any other colorful descriptors would constitute using a homosexual slur.

It's only a problem now because of the low ratings. The show got decent ratings, so it was OK. It's all about money - the media is a business after all.

All I was talking about was the expression "30 Rock." That show got kind of old, so I stopped watching. So that's cool, yes.

Dems by and large do not and have proven it time and again, but really, you don't see the diff between attacking someone for their political views and their sexuality/race/gender? Even Fox canned a football analyst for anti-gay comments. It's a stupid ass way to conduct oneself and garners no sympathy from me. Then again, anyone could have seen this coming. Baldwin has always been a pig and the mistake was hiring him in the first place.

I thought his daughter was the "pig".

He called him a ********ing fag. Is this word now like the N Word? Only gays can use it?

Pigs usually have pig children, but I bet his daughter didn't know she was a pig until her daddy told her so.

It's a form of vulgarity that is beneath contempt. It's never necessary to suggest under ANY circumstances that the person with whose views we disagree should be defecated on.

Unless you're an abortion banner talking about a pro-choicer. Then it's OK to compare them to the Nazis and argue that they should be jailed for life or executed.

Which is A-OK because it doesn't involve poop!

My point, perhaps not well explained, was that gays are generally liberal in their views and MSNBC caters to liberals, so any attack on MSNBC's target audience can't be condoned - Bashir, on the other hand, targetted the great liberal Satin, Sarah Palin, so all is good, no harm done.

That is true but it is hard to Split up their 3 viewers between so many shows.

Exactly why i chose that word. Should be able to take what he dishes out. Maybe i should stoop to his level and call him a "********ing f----" next time i see him.
