Good news, California: Surplus is $2.4 billion

Good for Governor Brown and the legislature. I though for sure California would be the first state ever to go bankrupt. My hat off to Governor Jerry Brown.

Yes....as much as it pains my fellow Californians (the cranky ones, anyway), Brown and the voters found a way out of the quagmire.

There's story behind (no pun intended) the Ram Rod Club in Frisco.

It was during the mid 80's and a business associate of mine from Texas a real cowboy and I has just landed at SOF and took a cab to our hotel. While driving down the road he sees this sign (Ram Rod Club) and what looks like a club. Most people think of ram rod as a boss on a cattle drive. My friend says, "Hey Rat, they have a country western bar in San Fransisco." It took me a minute to figure it out, that it wasn't a country western bar but I didn't say nothing.

That night my buddy from Texas want to know if I wanted to check out that country western bar, I said no I'm just going to hang out in the hotel room tonight. I didn't say nothing.

About two hours later there was a knock on my door. There he stood, red faced and said "You knew didn't you" ? I couldn't keep a straight face and broke out laughing.

In San Fransisco, ram rodding is buggery.

That's just mean letting a poor defenseless Texan walk into that kind of bar alone. :lamo

Tom is young ???

He's 57 years old.

Depends on one's perspective, I guess.
Heck, you think Fawn Hall is a babe.
She's 54.
I see you didn't question my "political hack" comment.
Duly noted.

That really surprises me, but I am way across the country from you all. Anyway, Brown deserves a pat on the back.

Ahh no, no he don't. He needs a kick in the butt. I live here. I should know. Between the legislature, and CARB and the governor, we, at least were I am, are under siege.

At least your, the state looks like it is getting onto solid financial ground. Which is more than I can say our the country, our nation.

26 years ago, Fawn Hall turned heads at State functions.

Would Fawn Hall be considered a big hair woman, the kind that Bill Clinton got a woody over ?

Fawn worked inside the Reagan White House. Just think what would have happened if Fawn worked inside the Clinton White House. Bill would have thrown Hillary out on the streets. :lamo

Yeah, by pretending the "way out" was substantive and actually means something.

Oh, c'mon.
People have been complaining about deficits, Cali does something about it.
What happens?
People like you start bellyaching that the solution isn't "substantive" or meaningful.
Some people are never happy.
I'll add you to the "Cranky Californians" list.:)

Its not definitive, it propaganda intended to give the impression of fiscal responsibility in a state that has been anything but.

I'm not sure.
The prez did like the big hair types, but....mostly....Bill's type were not that great looking.
It's kind of embarrassing.
You'd think the leader of the free world would be more discerning.

Ate a lot of salads did you ?

That area just east of Monterey around Salinas is known as the "Salad Bowl of America."

Catroville just north of Monterey is the "Artichoke Capital of the World."

That "Ram Rod Club" in San Fransisco that looks like a country western bar isn't country western.

You're also close to Fort Ord which manages somehow to have the opposite of the good weather and sights you get at Carmel.

Its gotten worse the last 6 or 7 years.

The tax base including business and employees are leaving like its cool to places like texas, colorado and arizona.

Im considering moving as well, if I do its an instant 10% raise (state taxes) for example. Let alone the other benefits.

According to the BLS, total Jobs at the end of 2011 were 132,498,000.At the end of 2012 they were 134,691,000 for a gain of 2,193,000 jobs. When you say that “business and employees are leaving “where do you get your data from?:2wave:

True that Bill's choice of women seemed to be lower but look at who he is married to.

Much like the propaganda in the OP. Those are low paying low wage jobs, the type that means people pay little in taxes. Nevermind the ubiquitous tales of people and business leaving here.

How did they do that?

Did you read the OP? Yet another super special emergency tax, which btw they have no intentions of cancelling now that the super emergency is done. And if you thought they might just use that surplus to pay down their debt, nope, same OP says they're giving all that and a few million more to education. Effectively saying they don't have a surplus, but a debt after all.

NO!I voted Dem this time.:2wave:

You misspelled that, it's "dumb" not "dem".

Yet you would forsake Calyfornia for "cool to places like texas, colorado and arizona"inspite of the fact that they have a lower average pay rate then Calyfornia.:lamo

Cost of living is also way less, so you come out good. AND you don't get hit with super fun emergency taxes that last forever after.

Fort Ord seems to be on the wrong side of the tacks.

So how has those great plans for Fort Ord turned out ?

There sure were a lot of soldiers from California and other western states that did their basic at Fort Ord.

I know Clint Eastwood served at Fort Ord and Jimi Hendrix did his basic training at Fort Ord. Everyone I know who was drafted did their basic at Fort Ord.
