“Same-sex marriage is not some warm, fluffy equality bunny; it’s a bare-faced state power grab,” Manning writes. “The state gets to entirely remake marriage, not as the man/woman/child model we’ve inherited from 10,000 years of history and across all cultures, but as an anything-goes irrelevant partnership agreement between adults.”

Manning explains same-sex unions will render marriage “irrelevant” because “for the first time, children and parenthood [will have] no place in marriage.”

“Only a man and a woman have children, despite every fantasy the gender-busters want us to believe,” Manning writes. “Every child has a right to that natural life. Same-sex marriage asks us to ignore reality and children’s rights to a mother and father.”

When the government steps in and changes that... the children will suffer.

“We can ignore reality all we want, but the outcomes for children are not the same across all family models,” Manning insists. “Marriage of a man and a woman gives children the best chance. That doesn’t mean there are not great parents in other circumstances, just that the weight of evidence is stacked against them.”

Finally some sanity.

Just because he's gay this somehow gives this tired old argument credence?

The argument is bull****.

I became a father a week and a half ago when my beautiful wife gave birth to a baby boy.

We're trying our best, but we're by no means perfect parents and from what I've experienced so far, all a child really needs is loving, supporting parents who give a crap about it...

This world is far from perfect, there's ALOT of bad parents out there and again, good parents are good parents, they'll never be perfect but if those good parents happen to be both of the same sex... so be it.

Congrats Jet! First I've heard.

The guy has more credibility on the subject than you do. His sexuality makes him untouchable.

I agree with OP. Divorce should be banned because it harms children.

So gay men can have social conservative opinions. Your point? They are still just opinions.

It's the only way zimmer will take them seriously. I think we'll see a groundswell of support for this guy to be Dr. Carson's running mate. "See, we have black guys and gays too!"

I like this argument...

Dr John Murray of The Iona Institute added, “This debate is really about the value we attach to a child having a mother and a father as distinct from two fathers or two mothers. … If we redefine marriage, we will be saying as a society that these things don’t matter. We will also be saying that the sexual union of a man and a woman isn’t different in any socially significant way from that of two men or two women. Given that only the former can result in children, this is plainly untrue. Different things should be treated in different ways. This does not violate the principle of equality.”

That is the best phrasing I have heard for the social conservative argument against same sex marriage and it perfectly demonstrates the oversimplicity with which many conservatives have framed this debate. There are same sex headed families! Through adoption, surrogacy, prior relationships, etc. they exist! And as much as conservatives try to denote that heterosexual marriages are about children, that is not always the case. Social conservatives need to embrace the complexity of this situation.

However, the last person I want to sleep with at this point is my ex-wife. I'd rather kiss a wookie.

I have raised 4 kids, all I know about it is I dont know nuthin about it.

Congratulations on the new arrival at your house, Jet! :2bow: And don't worry...you"ll get to catch up on your sleep.... one of these days ...

Greetings, Jetboogieman. :2wave:

He would be wrong on pretty much every count, and research shows he is wrong. Oh well, that was not hard.

Why would it make him untouchable?

A right to a mother and father? The liberal entitlement society has gotten worse than I thought!

Finally some sanity.

So you support civil unions? Because now that I looked up the Gay Blogger's site and read his entire article it is clear he supports those.

http://thickerthantalk.blogspot.com/2013/11/this-piece-was-published-in-irish-daily.html

Yes, gay people need to give legal force to their relationships but for that we have civil unions, not a one size fits all marriage, emptied of meaning to suit the romantic whims of adults.

Or are you picking and choosing which aspects of his argument you find "sane"?

"Manning insists marriage isn’t just about two people who “love” each other, but about “a man and a woman committing to making and raising children.”

The OP is titled wrong. It should read:

Irish Gay Catholic Overcome with Guilty; Says Pope is Right:

1. All contraceptives should be outlawed
2. Any procedure that sterilized a person should be outlawed.
3. The elderly do not be allowed to marry.
4. Gays should not be allowed to marry.
5. All Gays are sterile and incapable of having children.

The man's an idiot.

I suppose his next article will declare schools should be required to teach the earth is 6,000 years old.

Finally some sanity.

Cool. All childless marriages should be immediately dissolved and senior citizens denied the right to marry. Also, from here on out every single individual should undergo fertility tests before being allowed to apply for a marriage license. If they don't produce offspring within 2-5 years the marriage will be dissolved.

Cuz, you know, marriage is all about making babies and stuff.

How am I doin' on the sanity level? :joke:

Actually, I think we should go to a conservative state and see if we can push through an amendment with that exact wording. I'm curious to see how that would be enforced.

ITT: Some dude that I think is a hopeless sinner agrees with me about some of his sinning ways.

While we're at it, let's outlaw contraception and masturbation and sodomy and oral sex. Sex is only for making babies, and marriage is only for providing a stable environment for breeding.

Hell, why aren't we arranging marriages based on genetic tests?

Thanks for all the good wishes guys :2wave:

Well... bet this thread didn't go as well as Zimmer thought it would.

I bet he was genuinely excited and thought he'd finally beaten those godless liberals.

What are we gonna do with the defective breeders who produce gay babies?

Sterilization for both parents and all children, obviously. Survival of the species is what it's all about, so we've got to weed out the weak genetic links.

We should also seriously consider relocation for any who are sterile, have been proven to have corrupted genetics, or who refuse to breed. I'm thinking ship them into the heartland where there's plenty of space for genetic degenerates, leaving the centers of commerce and culture (i.e. cities) open only to those who promote the survival of the species.
