Dad calls cops on son...cops shoot son

That should be the default assumption in every free and civilized society.

Scumbag, seriously? This was an idiot with self-control problems. Nothing in any of the articles published contains anything to suggest that he was more than a troubled youth.
Idiot with self control problems = scumbag.

Gun owners have everything to do with this situation. Due to the easy access of firearms, the prevailence of them is high. Which means, as an officer, you have to presume that everyone you encounter is armed. To do otherwise, is simply ignorant.

The same would be true w/o guns. The perp might have a butcher knife, or sewing scissors.

And 4 sets of box cutters caused 911... I say the TSA should be authorized to open fire in airports (wait, didn't a guy already?) because " you can never be too careful"

As a trained fire fighter I bet I know far more about training and real life scenarios than you ever will. Anyone who is anyone...

Yep, I would know nothing about training, especially since I am in the military and have been stationed at forward operating locations before. But go ahead and tell me about how much I do not understand about training.

Training provides a base. Those that train stretch their tolerance and learn to expect, anticipate and deal with the unpredictable. Training takes individuals that assess a situation differently and helps/makes them asses situations in a more similar manner so as to provide stability and uniformity.

Training does provide a base knowledge, but it is impossible and probably deadly to train everyone to react the same way to any particular instance. Training should be disigned to educate someone on the basic theory of how to react to a situation. But since all situations are not cookie cutter situations you can draw up in a training environment, all training should ever consist of is basics with an emphasis on using you brain to think thru the scenario.

Cops are not always right. Taking a fight to the courthouse is a better thing to do than to fight but cops win that almost every time. If you are charged you are rarely going to get that over turned, if not ever.

If you feel this way, I would not have any pitty on you if an officer shoots you dead. Right or wrong, who cares! The officer's only concern in a situation where a citizen starts a confrontation with them is public safety and their own life. If you put them in a situation where they feel thretened by creating a hostile environment, I would not fault them for taking it upon themselves to protect themselves. Right or wrong, I don't care. If you want a confrontation on the street with an officer, just remember that officer has the right to defend themselves from you and that not everyone has the same threshold of what they will put up with until they feel they are in danger.

You have not educated yourself and you apparently have no idea what a no knock warrant is or how and why that has led to the deaths of innocent children, elderly in addition to people thinking that they are facing a home invasion robbery... and all innocent people where the police went to the wrong house as well.

No education needed.

Not everybody that gets training understands it. Nobody said people are robots and react the same. The argument is that cops, like you, are trained to not piss their pants and start shooting at people unless absolutely necessary. I see the History Channel shows about frontline soldiers in Afghanistan. They don't roll in and just start blasting. They asses the situation and make a trained and knowledgeable decision. That cop jumped out of his car and started shooting. He is also trained with tazers... but that wasn't even on his mind set, apparently.

We are not talking about cookie cutter situations. We are talking about this situation. In this situation the cop opened fire against an unarmed person that was not a deadly threat at that moment. Those are the facts.

Cop wants you to stop walking. You don't. Cop shoots you and you wouldn't feel pity? I had two cops, one with a dog, attempt to grab me when I asked them if I could walk past them to my car. They were funnelling people out down the street and blocking side streets. I jumped back and they missed me. Had they grabbed me I would have been arrested and there is no way I would have been able to "fight them in court". Don't even try to be silly about that... I walked down the street, out, around the block and called over to them and waved.

You aren't a soldier with a gun, are you? Right or wrong you don't care... holy ****ing **** that is ridiculous. No offense since I don't know you but damn!

No education needed.

About no knock warrants and police killing innocent people? Nice to know that you don't care, right or wrong.

My kids wouldn't take a car without permission...

The Cowboys, Saints, rice dressing, porkchops, ol' lady and Bud Light culminated in me ending up on the wrong thread.

Cops receive completely different training then those who are trained to go to war. If we trained cops like we trained soldiers, they certainly would shoot first and ask questions later. Generally speaking, soldiers are trained with a much lower threshold of what they will put up with from a potential threat. Ok, so ignoring your flawed comparison, you still forget that cops are human just like the rest of us. No amount of preparation or training is going to prepare them for situations like this. You can not instill life threatening fear in a training scenario. How someone reacts in a training scenario and in a real scenario can be completely different. I have seen with my own eyes, scenarios where people demonstrated understanding of the concepts and easily dealt with the scenario just to be put in a similar real world scenario and dump all of their training due to fear. And that stems from fear being the factor in the latter scenario.

We are not talking about cookie cutter situations. We are talking about this situation. In this situation the cop opened fire against an unarmed person that was not a deadly threat at that moment. Those are the facts.

In my opinion, this individual was a deadly threat. Anyone driving irratically on the streets trying to run from police is a threat to public safety and as a result also a threat to the lives of those trying to stop him/her.

Cop wants you to stop walking. You don't. Cop shoots you and you wouldn't feel pity?

I think your leaving a lot of the story out of the middle there. Of course if a cop just tells you to stop walking and you dont, and they shoot you, its wrong. But most of the time people like you like to leave out the rest of the story just so you can propogate your misinformation to make the police look bad.

I had two cops, one with a dog, attempt to grab me when I asked them if I could walk past them to my car. They were funnelling people out down the street and blocking side streets. Sorry, I don't do personal stories because most of them are told from one side, do not have all the information and a lot of times the information that is provided is twisted to fit the person telling the stories agenda.

What I do is none of your business and I will leave it at that. I can tell you that I am in the military, but do not wish to reveal any more information than that. And your right, I don't care for your type. People like you make life for the rest of us difficult because you go around pissing cops off which then take it out on the rest of us.
