Mom Lets Son Wear KKK Halloween Costume, Says It's A Family Tradition

How am I the one who is uncomfortable? All I'm saying is that it's a poor choice of costume, if the kid gets his ass kicked for his choice then it would be his own fault, and that (to the kid) the purpose of the costume is not necessarily rooted in bigotry.

First of all, that is a much more precise explanation of your point. Explain how this could not be "rooted" in bigotry. It's a KKK costume. It you are suggesting that she may not be a bigot based simply on the costume....she would have to have been raised in a cave to not understand what that costume means and it is pretty easy to assume that the tradition that passed down that costumer also based down the beliefs that go along with it.

You don't seem to have perspective in this, dear. You're wearing your blackness on your sleeve, and it compromises your objectivity. If you have a young son and I say, "He's a beautiful boy", am I racist? After all, I just called him "boy". Time to go Sharpton on me, right? No intent, no malicious purpose, but saying "boy" automatically files it under R for racism.

You can not equate using the word boy to address a male child to a KKK costume. The costume has one meaning and one history the word boy has multiple applications and meanings so ...apples and rotten oranges my friend.

Racism isn't a thing. It's a belief. It's an attitude. It cannot be equated to a costume, or a burning cross, or a flag. By not doing that, you're making racism into nothing more evolved than a Pavlovian response

Racism is an attitude or an idea, one that manifests itself in actions, actions that are destructive and unjust. If you want to free the world, or at least make the effort, of racism or sexism or ageism or any other behavior (fed by attitudes and beliefs) that is ultimately hurtful to all of us then you speak up. I put thought into my position and accusing me of not doing so just because you can't see it or refuse to see it is a cheap shot. It's a ****ing KKK costume for christs sake.

What if I was to tell you that the Klan originated as an anti-Republican group that was meant to fight Reconstruction? Their original targets were white northern industrialists.

What if I was to tell you that the Confederacy flag (a.k.a. the "Rebel Flag") existed only as a wartime flag that the south flew during battles, not as some sort of pro-slavery symbol?

And what if I was to tell you that the swastika originated long before the Third Reich and the rise of Hitler?

What if I was to tell you that the original uniform didn't include the pointy-hat capirote?

Okay, now what was the kid doing that was "destructive and unjust"? Was he trick-or-treating, or was he beating up neighborhood black kids with a baseball bat? Was he setting crosses on fire in the lawns of houses where black people live? Was he shouting racial slurs?

By your transitory belief system, going as Elton John for Halloween makes me gay.

We are talking about current popular belief and you know it.

I never said the KID was bigoted.(although there's a fair chance he will be one as an adult) I think it's pretty clear that the mother is.

I do believe that bigotry is destructive and unjust.

that's just stupid

The fact (And it is a fact, Check the demographic voting results of recent elections.) that the vast majority of American Blacks have switched from Abe Lincoln's GOP to the Democratic Party tells me that the GOP has a huge problem.

If the old White men who rule the GOP don't do something about that problem in thirty years or so when massive demographic change hits the GOP full force it is very likely that the GOP will join the Whigs.

I am not wishing for this, I am just saying that it's coming unless the GOP make some major changes in the near future.

"Better day's are coming." ~ But not for today's out of touch, running out of time, GOP.
Sure. If you have your way, the whole country will share the same experience that crippled dependent pets and black Americans all across the country face for their support of the democrat party. Dare to dream, baby.

50+ years of blind support for the democrat party...and the black community has been devastated. LBJ and Robert Byrd somewhere are shedding happy tears.

50+ years of blind support for the democrat party and the black community is not much better off (and in some respects is much worse off) than it was 50 years ago.

We are talking about current popular belief and you know it.

If there's one thing I know, it's that "most Americans are f'n stupid". Argumentum ad populum is the easiest way to create a disconnect with me.

I agree - the mother is.

that's just stupid

How? It's completely comparable. You're creating a false equivalency, and I made a justifiable comparison involving it.

Thirty years from now we'll see who's dreaming, baby.

and if the democrats have their way....the black community will still have above national average crime, poverty, and out-of-wedlock births and below national average education and job opportunities. gotta keep 'em down and dependent so they will keep falling for your false promises of hope and change.

Point is that you have to consider what those symbols mean NOW and the history that your average person will know about them.

How? It's completely comparable. You're creating a false equivalency, and I made a justifiable comparison involving it.
For one thing remember I never said the kid was a bigot. He's a kid.

It's not comparable because you can not equate the social relevance of Elton John with that of the KKK.

0 years from now the Republocrats will have enslaved us all.

Wrong, thirty years from now the GOP will be well on its way to joining the Whigs.

I find it ammusing that people still think there's considerable difference between the Democrats and Republicans.

Point is that you have to consider what those symbols mean NOW and the history that your average person will know about them.

I'm not exactly known for giving a damn about what the "average person" knows. The "average person" cares more about who makes the next round of American Idol than they do about relevant social issues and injustices.

For one thing remember I never said the kid was a bigot. He's a kid.

It's legitimate. You're seeing a kid in a Klansman costume and playing "six degrees of separation" to give you license to shout "RACIST WHITE BITCH!".

God forbid that a little girl in that neighborhood wanted to go as a "mammy" or a giant bottle of Aunt Jemima. She'd get chastized.

Thirty years from now we'll see who's dreaming, baby.
You must have missed it. I AGREE with you. We are on the fast track to Idiocracy. Its you and people like you that celebrate the election of someone like Terry McCaulif (sp) as a 'win' and that are excited about the continued economic decline of this country that will usher it in. Democrats have along history of ****ing over blacks, first before the passage of the Civil rights legislation, and certainly in the 50 years since they have given them their unwavering support. The sad thing is you are cheering about it. Excited about it. I can only imagine you have no children or grandchildren because I cant imagine anyone excited about the package you want to hand off to them in '30 years'.

People are concerned about individuals making stupid racist decisions for their kids...but ignore the continued downward spiral that is enveloping the black community. Thats...tragic.

I'm not screaming racist white bitch. You're adding all the drama and emotion. Why are you even arguing you already said it was obvious the women is a bigot. Come on

Sure, she's a bigot. However, I didn't say that because of her kid wearing an innocuous costume on Halloween. She's a bigot because she has that "ew, race mixing is nasty" mentality. She wouldn't like me, mostly due to my flirting with you and my recent admission (kinda) of all the depraved stuff I'd do to Aisha Tyler.

No loss. Women with that sort of attitude tend to have high cholestrol, low IQ, and body parts that both look and smell like fermented cottage cheese. Only thing worse would be if she was from West Virginia instead. Then the story would come with its own banjo music.

Halloween is a solemn and serious occasion which historically has always stood for honoring God, family and country. The level of disrespect for this tradition is shocking and disgusting. We shouldn't take it anymore. The War on our Culture and traditions must not be tolerated anymore.

We should demand these 2 women be turned over for trial or minimally impose the strictest economic and political sanctions against the UK, if not outright go to war. We don't have to take this!

Amber Langford and Annie Collinge dress as burning Twin Towers for Halloween, win costume contest

It's time to DEMAND that respect and reservation be returned to our sacred Halloween holiday.

I defy you to point out where I 'cheered' about anything.

I just commented on what the GOP is doing to itself.

The people that you need to talk to are the old White men who rule the GOP.

It is not innocuous. You don't think this particular costume is a reflection of that attitude? Of course it is.

If someone flips you off, does that offend you? It's just a finger?

Actually I take it to mean they are wishing me a good ****ing. And really...how can that be a bad thing. Oh...I suppose you could make it mean ANYTHING...but then...that's kinda the point.

So now "unique" names are out?

Sure, names like Aryan Race and Hitler are perfect examples of names which should be on some sort of black list.

Again, you've demonstrated no harm,

Except I demonstrated the fact that names do harm a person's chances at gaining employment. That you refuse to see that is your problem.

She stated that there is nothing wrong with the group. Nothing wrong with a racist, violent, anti semeitc, group.
She said "Its supposed to BE white with white, black with black, etc etc". Meaning that whites should marry blacks or any other minority and any other minority shoulndt be with whites.

Yeah, that does sound kinda supremest, doesn't it? When she said the costume had been in her family for generations.....suggested that her family may have worn the "costume" for other occasions as well.....such as neck tie parties.

I'm still trying to understand why a KKK robe can't be a costume if it's worn on Halloween as a costume. Isn't the point of Halloween to dress up as something you're not? I've seen people dress up as Indians, Jesus, Al Qaeda, Nazi's, prostitutes, the Pope, nuns, hillbillies, etc...and p-u ...one guy just stopped taking a bath for three months for his costume. His stench was very offensive by Halloween and at the party no one could stand to be near him, let alone in the same room. lol

Anyway, Americans seem to love dressing up in costumes whether its for Civil War re-enactments, or Renaissance Fair, Burning Man, Trekky and comic book conventions, Goths, Emos, bikers, etc. Costumes are a form of free expression and some are political, some are sexy, some are scary and some are just bad. Like art, costumes can make people think and there's certainly no shortage of art critics and someone is always bound to get offended. But in a way, that could be a good thing because it gets people talking and discussing the issue instead of ignoring it. I've heard blacks (Boondocks?) mention that apathy is almost worse than blatant racism because at least with racism, blacks weren't ignored..whereas with apathy, nobody seems to care at all.

Actually you didn't. Because names are not forever and can be changed. The issue here is that YOU do not like the name and YOU think people shouldn't be able to do it and YOU think people should have to listen to what YOU think. That you refuse to see that is your problem.

Actually you didn't. Because names are not forever and can be changed.

As children can't change their names until they're 18, your statement is false. Again, you don't have a right to make your kids into social pariahs.
