Mom Lets Son Wear KKK Halloween Costume, Says It's A Family Tradition

Is it just me, or does the nosy, loudmouth neighbor (Sprouse is her last name) who is interviewed for the news story strike anyone else as partially retarded?
 
Here's another story of two kids wearing KKK costumes.....one kid is white and the other is black.




Smithfield, Utah • Two students at a Smithfield high school were suspended last week after coming to class on Halloween dressed as members of the Ku Klux Klan, administrators said.

The two Sky View High School juniors, including one white student and one African-American student, were sent home Thursday and suspended on Friday, according to The Herald Journal (Sky View High School students suspended for Ku Klux Klan Halloween costumes - The Herald Journal: Allaccess). One of the students was barred from playing in a football game last week.

"It was a joke that they thought would be funny, but we took it very seriously," said Dave Swenson, the principal of Sky View High School, who declined to release the students’ names. "We had the parents in and let them know that as we investigated, there was no intention of being racist. It was just him making a bad choice."

At one point during Halloween, the white student contacted his African-American jiu-jitsu instructor, Carl Sims. The teen sought advice after an African-American classmate who played football with him threatened to beat him up over the costume.

Sims told the newspaper he was shocked the student chose the outfit, which featured a robe, hood and torch.

"When you dress up as a Klansman who raped and killed and tortured my ancestors, that’s an issue," Sims said.

He said he was also taken aback that the student’s mother reportedly helped her son make the costume......read

I think it's kind of funny. I remember when some Christians complained about kids dressing up as witches and satan.

The line between if the kid just wore a group who stands for inequality, bigotry, racism, and terror and the costume just cuz is a little hazey. But what seals the deal for me is this "She went on to claim there is nothing wrong with the costume or with the White Supremacist group, which she says still exists in their Virginia town. "It's supposed to be white with white, black with black, man with woman and all of that. That's what the KKK stands for."

She's a bigot, yes. However, she's a bigot because of what she says, not because of her refusal to discipline a child who wanted to wear the costume.

Down here, people often fly Confederate flags - but that action alone does not mean that they purport slavery.

The KKK is a completely legal organization.

Fortunately we still enjoy freedom of speech and of association in this country.

There is no "line" here.

Maybe you don't like what the KKK stands for, I certainly don't like what the KKK stands for.

Who gives a **** what we "like"?

Shes a bigot that allowed her son to wear a costume that represents hatred, violence, racism, and terrorism and then justified the action with bigotry. Classic example of being a bigot.

The words she said would qualify. If she refused to identify with blacks, spat on them as they walked by, etc.

However, letting your child wear a costume that's been in the family for generations is not bigotry alone. If she went out with him trick-or-treating while shouting "kill all niggers" or "God is white", that'd definitely be bigotry.

I believe that bigotry is active. I don't believe that bigotry is passive. Do you believe anyone who burns the American flag should go to jail? We're on the same premise here if you do.

Dear god. For about the 4th ****ing time. I'm not saying that she should have her 1st amendment rights taken away I'm just calling her a ignorant ****er who is a bigot. I'm using my 1st amdendment rights too, to call her out on her ****ing ignorance.

That's not bigotry and it's certainly not ignorance.

I agree with you that it's...something?

Small mindedness maybe, provincialism, we could probably agree on a number of things that it is.

But on the evidence it's not bigotry.

Unless you make up your own meaning for words.

If you do that, then sure, I suppose any word could mean anything you want it to mean.

But if we're using the real definition of the word it's not bigotry.

Now, where is the debate in that. Dosent sound very open minded about what others may think.
You come on a debate forum and post pre-concieved notions that I doubt I could make a dent in to. Sounds like trolling. Just sayin'.

She stated that there is nothing wrong with the group. Nothing wrong with a racist, violent, anti semeitc, group.
She said "Its supposed to BE white with white, black with black, etc etc". Meaning that whites should marry blacks or any other minority and any other minority shoulndt be with whites.

Institutional racism is dead, you're never going to forcibly change the minds of individuals who insist on believing stupid things, so long as they don't act on it. People have a right to wear whatever they want, whether you like it or not. They broke no laws. Deal with it.
