actually most branches of the KKK fit the description of political organizations these days. This is mainly due to them being rightfully dragged through the legal ringer for incidences like the Micheal Donald case.

Al Qaeda may one day be light on terrorism, too. I don't know if that means the people who would join that organization would become nice guys w/o a killing and hateful philosophy, even if they are no longer caught murdering innocents on behalf of some cause.

My point was the klan, for the most part, has been defanged and exists as nothing more than a pathetic shell. So calling them a "terrorist organization" gives them way too much credit and ignores the fact such idiots are going to exist no matter what. And since they are going to exist no matter what, it's better to have them operating legally and in the open, as political organizations, than force them underground and making them feel their only mode of influence is crime.

It's like the Phelps klan. Would you rather deal with them being abrasive assholes on the street corner, or them going out at night and lynching homosexuals?

Racism isn't even close to being as evil as some measures that people are willing to give government the power to perform in the name of ending it.

I want to live in a nation where he's allowed to be culturally insensitive. I also want to live in a nation where he gets egged for doing so.

We have freedom of action, but not freedom from consequence.

several years ago, my oldest adopted son (who is black) dressed up like a ****ing lawn jockey, complete with lantern, for halloween. Did I think it was dumb and a bit insensitive? yes. did I allow him to do it and face the consequences? yes

You see that's an odd leap to me. I never said anything like about not allowing it. Honestly, I think the responses to this post that try to dismiss it are the ones over-reacting. I think the reality of it makes them uncomfortable so they are dismissive.

I can see your point of view and don't disagree with where you're coming from with how it's brought up by many as if racism is part of every problem. However, the OP's a pretty good girl, IMO. Racism will never be dead unfortunately, but that's no reason to beat all of us over the head with it, and I don't think that's what she was doing, unlike others that do that very thing. But, I may be wrong. I just know that every time I get into a debate with her, she is reasonable and opens her mind to my point of view, while still standing by what she believes. And I can't ask anything more from a person that, although I may not agree completely with all the time, I do respect for her reasonable debate tactics when she discusses things with me.

Heck, we all have issues we get our panties in a wad over. The OP is no different than the rest of us.

Just my opinion.

You'll have to show me where people are saying "racism doesn't exist". I see people saying "meh, no biggie", but that's not the same. A kid trick-or-treating in a stupid-looking costume that has historical ramifications is not akin to them going out to lynch and hang black people from trees in nooses. Some kid could go around in a Stasi uniform adorned with swastikas, but unless he's going around and setting fire to Jews on All Hallows Eve, it's just a punk kid in a tacky costume - nothing more.

You'd do more for your "cause" by not acting like this is getting you all a-flutter and dismiss it as the hony-tonk actions of a honky-tonk family that aren't actually hurting anyone.
