I don't know about other students, but tuition and living expenses from college/university were at the forefront of my mind, not the President of the United States.

omg. O---m---g.

pretty damn scary isn't it, we are headed for a melt down

Five years ago, people talked about student loans and public pensions being the next two meltdowns. I'm thinking they're exactly right.

I guess there is some future use for all those SWAT teams and military gear given to local police after all - for tracking down and arresting those who are behind on their student loans - or are related to someone who is.

I just don't understand why we hand out that much money, I paid for all my kids tuition, they paid for their books and all are out with out any debt and my wife and I are not rich people.

The student loan scam is a crime. It's an outrage what colleges and universities have done. It's an outrage what students have done to themselves. It's an outrage what the Government, who now controls it, continues to do.

Too many loose ends here..
How much of this new money owed was taken out before Obama?.
How much more does College cost now than it during the Bush years?.
Is there any understanding out there that more kids are opting for
Community College to help their parents ?

Shouldn't people go to school and get an education rather than live off of welfare?

Remember the whole 99% Occupy crap? They were telling people to stop paying for their student loans because "It's just not fair!"...or something. *eyeroll*

Meanwhile, I'm 2 months away from paying back every single penny of $63,000 worth of student loan debt since 2004.

Hello Maggie..
I believe that student loans still pale in comparison to the public pension meltdown,
as we see it being put off each day in our state, let alone the other 49 states plus the Federal pensions .

And you will have a rich intrinsic reward to share with your students that noone can put a price on..
Imagine all the kids you affect with your positive "hidden agenda", as my Principal once said about me .

Not to get too carried away, but it's inconcievable to me that there is anything innocent behind loaning $10's of thousands of dollars to kids with no credit history, under terms that don't require the loans to start being paid back until some date years down the road.

These colleges and universities, with the blessing of the forces behind them, have jacked up pay, feathered their beds while selling a more often than not, liberal objective, and left these kids with debts that will keep most of them poor for decades.

There is a reason government backed student loans can't be discharged in bankruptcy. What a nice way to buy a generations of kids.

You GO GIRL!:2wave:

You have no idea how much I hate this crap.

Prices go up, so use taxpayer money or easy loans so everyone can go to college.... they can afford tuition because there are grants and loans, so the prices go up.... rinse and repeat...

The easy availibility of loans and, more importantly, grants, are the main cause of soaring tuition costs.

Gee, the rising cost of tuition wouldn't have anything to do with those multi million dollar salaries that universities and colleges have to pay football and basketball coaches nowadays, would it? The institutions of higher learning seem more interested in chasing balls than academia and teaching the young how to earn a living in the real world.

I was thinking more of the college profs and the administration. Football makes money.

Yeah and he also proposed in one of his first SOTU that college debt should be forgiven after a certain time. He said that no one should go broke in this country cause they sought an education. He actually gets it, but repubs (and some dems no doubt) have no desire to forgive debts so this emerging crisis is their fault really.

Actually, it doesn't.

Not everyone can be a football player and using most of the schools funding and resources to pay a coach's high salary instead of on higher learning seems like a good way to dumb down America ala the Mudsill Theory

Oh? .....

Football and basketball are revenue-generating sports, and that money generally goes to fund their respective athletic departments.
