Mother Jones Shocker: 'New Poll Shows Democratic Incumbents in Big Trouble'

You are certainly entitled to your view. I think your style of politics wins races for the Dems. The Senate has a Dem majority because of voters like you. That's OK if that's what you want, but I don't think it is. Christie can win, and he'd made a good POTUS in my view.:peace
The landslides have occurred when conservatives ran.
How big a victory margin did Bob Dole have?
How big a victory margin did John McCain have?
How big a victory margin did Mitt Romney have?

The style of politics you are suggesting will be a winner for us has been tried and it fails.

Or we can run on name recognition. What does that buy us? If we win we get exactly the same thing the Democrats offer only at a slower rate.

What about Barry Goldwater?

What about Barry Goldwater?
What about him?

A young, charismatic, president was assassinated. It is tough to overcome the desire for a utopian pipe dream called Camelot.

I can remember as a child the candy that had "All the way with LBJ" on it. It was on the appealing candy. 'Go go go with Goldwater" was on the less appealing candy. Clever idea.

He ran as a conservative and lost
True. I gave you three current examples and you went back to 1964. What does that tell you?
He did provide a significant boost to Conservatism and led to Ronald Reagan. So maybe it was not a loss after all.
One big mistake Reagan made was keeping Bush as his VP. It was his olive branch to the Establishment Republicans. The Bush family undid Reagan's gains.

No Repub would have won in 1996 (Dole). McCain would have won handily in 2000, but was sunk by the economic collapse in 2008. Romney was the wrong candidate in 2012. Had he run in 2012, Mitch Daniels would be POTUS today. Christie embodies the wisdom of the Buckley rule: the rightmost candidate who can win.:peace

We should do away with campaigns and with elections. After all, we can just ask you can or cannot win.

You should check with NJ Dems re that "status quo" nonsense.:peace
Do you mean Christie is not a status quo republican liberal? What does he think about the US Constitution? Did he support the fight against the most tyrannical law we have ever seen in this nation? No? Why not?

What about the Second Amendment? No?

Liberal. I will never vote for him. He is just like his brother Obama.

On the contrary, if I did not think elections are important then I would not be spending time in this discussion.:peace

To which law do you refer as "most tyrannical?" No, Christie is not a liberal of any kind. Constitution? He was a federal prosecutor. Second Amendment? He's very sound.:peace

This whole Christie sub-thread is silly.

Anyone who claims to be Conservative or Republican and rather than vote for Christie would either ...

  1. sit out an election
  2. vote for Hillary or, God help us, Elizabeth Warren or Biden or etc.
  3. or vote 3rd Party knowing it's the same as (1) or (2)

is either lying or a fool.

I knew many conservatives that sat out this last election because of Romney and the numbers even showed a decline.

What makes you think they won't this time with Christie?

I didn't say some wouldn't.

Besides ... many should have learned the big lesson after doing that in 2012.

Many should have learned the big lesson already that the Dem/Rep duopoly is a fail, but they haven't.

Some apparently need to retake the class on Dot Connecting 101.

Good morning, Bubba. :2wave: We're getting snow here...5 inches on the ground already, and it's still snowing... I think I'll bake some goodies today...

Fine ... you push for an even more Liberal 3rd Party (I'd like to see what that looks like) and I'll try to convince the Republicans they don't have to be so accepting and accommodating of Liberal policies.

The thing is, I totally understand where they're coming from.
What I can't fathom is why the Republican Party honchos don't even try to absorb them so as to win more elections.
There's something going on at the highest level of the R Party and it ain't pretty.

OMIGOD ... 5 inches +.
I'm not ready for anything like that.
We got just a smattering of snow here.
Can't even call it a dusting.

You don't even know my stances, so quit acting like you do.

You say you're a Libertarian Left (whatever the hell that means in practice).
I see Left and I see Libertarian but whenever there is Left I know that it needs to dominate.

Then you know nothing of me. If all you do is look at lables and make assumptions, you are truly ignorant.

It's not my label ... I didn't put it there ... if that's not what you are you should change it so it doesn't confuse ignorant people like me.
Or you should explain what it is to ignorant people like me so we don't make the wrong assumptions.

Are ALL conservatives the same, do they ALL believe the SAME thing? No, they do not. It's ignorant to assume something because of a label. Santorum and Romney BOTH label themselves as conservatives, do you think that holds true? No, it doesn't.

So yes, you labeling me as wanting to be "dominant" because there is a "left" in PART of my lean IS IGNORANT. Nuff said, you're dismissed as a hack.

You're very sensitive and evasive, aren't you.
You should explain some of your positions that make you Left and your other positions that make you a Libertarian.
I think many of us would like to see how that combination would work.
You want limited Government but not too limited?
You want healthcare choice but only from a Government approved list?
Or maybe you're simply a Libertarian in the sense that you want to be free to choose not to be free.
Or maybe you're just a confused fellow.
