'Obama' wears straightjacket, crowd goes insane

Why?

Because one company didn't like what their employees did?

Or did NSA agents turn up and take him away, torture him, arrest his entire family and eventually have him executed (Like what would happen in a country that really had no freedom of expression).

Far right wingers like yourself can never seem to get enough of feeling victimized by something or other.

The company just got ahead of any possible hostile workplace litigation. It's a sign of the times. Nobody would have ever mentioned the costume if it were of Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton, Hillary, Bush 2 or Jesus Christ. But Obama? He's off limits. What bull****.

I'm trying to figure out what this has to do with the Obama administration of freedom of speech. A private corporations didn't like it. All of a sudden a lot of people who normally espouse corporate freedom have flip-flopped and want to restrict the rights of private business.

From the article posted, it seems that the private corporation was not the complainer, but rather a local pastor. After photos began circulating around town.

Up till then, the hospital and its employees and management treated the contest as what it was, just good fun.

so who is supposed to protect us when private companys try to infringe on our civil rights?

The same folks that protect us when any other perso, or group infringes on our civil rights.

Apdst, I didn't know you supported the government. You big government liberal, you.

Of course I support government. I've actually served our country, which is more than you can say. I just don't support too much government.

Yes it is. Private companies have no more right to infringe on our civil rights than the government.

So are you saying that, say, someone can go on Twitter and talk **** about their employer and be legally protected from any repercussions from said employer? You'd be wrong.

If an employee's speech or expression is something the company doesn't feel represents its values, the company can choose to disassociate from that person, or provide further conditions to their continued association.

You also seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of what freedom of speech actually means.

Except they do. If it turns into company policy to not wear certain clothing during work hours or during work functions, guess what skippy, you don't get the right to anything else other than approved clothing.

Why is it whenever a Democrat is remotely involved, you folks shrink away from private market thinking in the private market, and shirk from personal responsibility and good work habits?

Ah, so you support the government infringing on the rights of businesses to discriminate? ;)

In this case, it was a costume party.

What's next? Your boss is going to tell you how to vote?

No no, don't be silly. We have secret ballots now. Can't do that anymore.

Freedom of speech means that you can express an opinion without fear of repercussions. I wouldn't expect a Libbo to appreciate the concept of free speech.

You would be ok if your boss forbade you from putting your Obama/Biden sign in your front yard?

Of course you boss can intimidate you into voting for a certain candidate. It's a private company and they can violate your civil rights however they choose. You just said so.

We were not talking about voting, guy. I was being sarcastic with you about the vote. Furthermore, clothing is well within their legal boundaries to regulate. You ought to know this, or perhaps you think it somehow goes out the window if it can spell opportunity to trash a Democrat? Lastly, you had no qualms with the concept of intimidating employees a year ago:

His employees should be afraid for their jobs, because an Obama victory might cost them just that.

I suppose it's different though, because the man was obviously talking about the negative impact from a Democrat President being re-elected.

I'm not sure if this is related but does anybody remember President Bush making a comment about a straight jacket? He said that borrowing lots of money was like wearing a fiscal straight jacket. Anybody else remember that?

yeah, he did say that

This shows you clearly don't understand what Freedom of Speech means.

Freedom of speech is not freedom from criticism. If someone was being jailed for speaking out against Obama, then you could say their freedom of speech was violated.

I clearly do. I did not state that liberals are attempting to arrest people. I stated that they are trying to restrict people's Freedom of Speech. If you are unclear as to what I meant I suggest you inquire instead of incorrectly assuming and looking like an ass.

Company orders 'diversity training' for hundreds of employees

It’s hard to decide which is scarier: a grinning “Barack Obama” wearing a straightjacket or the reaction to his appearance at one company’s annual Halloween costume party.

An employee of Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, Ky., must have thought he had the costume contest all sewn up when he sauntered into the party wearing an Obama mask and a straightjacket.

And he probably couldn’t believe his luck when he and his two pals actually won the third-place trophy for their Halloween skit “VIP Security,” according to local TV station WZTV.

However, soon after their shining moment, a snafu erupted over their Obama schtick.

“I think it is very, very offensive,” C.E. Timberlake, a local pastor, told the TV station. “And really, that shouldn’t have happened.”

Company officials weren’t impressed either after a photograph of the costumed trio began circulating around the office.

Is this the first President in our history that is off limits when it comes to jokes and ridicule?

I wonder how many people that think that a private company admonishing an employee for wearing this costume is OK but that the Muhhamed with a Ticking Time Bomb in his turban in a free press was in horrible taste.

I missed that second one

A few years ago... some Danish cartoonist did it and the Arab/Muslim fanatics were, again, threatening death and rioted successfully killing dozens of other rioting Muslims.

I'm fine with the company admonishing the employee, contemptuous toward the artist with the second example, and I despise those that advocated violence in response to the illustration. In fact, to go further, those countries that experienced riots over it needed to use their police to arrest and crush the loonies that would cause disorder. As soon as riots and deaths occur over stupid nonsense, I support the police state immediately.

PC is a liberal term invented to restrict people's Freedom of Speech.

"Politically Correct" was a term used by socialists to criticize communists in the early 20th century. It did not refer to freedom of speech, but to where loyalty to the party overrode personal judgment and morality. :prof
