Republican: Many in GOP don’t live in political reality

Because the president's idea is actually a reasonable start to fixing the massive issue of health insurance in this country. You seem t have a problem with the word "reasonable". Are you a Tea Party member? If so, I will refrain from speaking to you any further as you are incapable - by your political nature - of understanding the ramifications such a word has.
I'm sorry, I thought you were genuinly concerned with resonable. Having differing opinions on healthcare and how to approach it, but it appears for you, reasonable is "agree with me and my views or you arent worthy of consideration" .
I think the tea party has the right idea, reverse the massive government take over.of healthcare. Kinda think the 98,000,000 people over the next year that lose their doctors, money and insurance that they want and meets thier needs well find your stance rather unreasonable.

Glad to see at least one (im sure there is more) are actually connected with reality. Hope a lot more will follow Representative Rigell's example.

Rigell is a GOP congressman in an area that voted for Obama where the entire local economy is dependent on government spending--specifically military & NASA spending. If selling out principles in order to stay in office is the example you admire, then you might want to change your lean to Pragmatist.

Having differing opinions on healthcare and how to approach it

You are being dishonest. There is no reasonable "opinion" towards health care reform from the Tea Party Savages other than "more of the same".

Isn't it the GOP that says a Congressman should represent his constituents back home??

What positive approaches does the GOP have going forth??
We keep hearing from the GOP they have a plan..
Boehner says ask Paul Ryan..
Paul Ryan has lived off the government TEAt his entire life .

I suppose if you are in the "his job is to get me more free stuff" category, then you might see him differently than if you think your representative's job is to "keep me having to pay for other people's free stuff" category. There is no correct worldview.

You should find Ryan to be a great example for ppl then. I dont much care for him. The GOP has offered alternatives, but most of thosevare free market based, tort reform appoaches. Not massive regations, edifts, wealth transfers. The fundemenatal issue here is that one side thinks proactive government intervention is the only answer, the other believes otherwise. Personally, im leery of anything that dictates people choices.

Well, you are free to take that pov. Its wrong, but hey, im not gonna stop ya.

TEAparty types with the free-stuff meme say a Congressman should represent the views of his constituents..
What say you??
Just a one-way thingy with the rightist wing, eh..

Ryan is the wonky brains behind the Cantor coup since Nov. 2008..

I have seen no Repub plans, and if they had any, I'm sure we would have seen them in October..

One hunderd percent statements are never true, one way or the other, and account for today's dysfunction..
Personally, im leery of anything that dictates people choices.
Considering state's rights abuses across the board in red states that dictate people's choices, I'll take fed intervention..
Especially when Female Federal Judges in Texas can't vote after 52 years..Just the tip of the anti-voting iceberg .

Can't say that any Congressman where I lived has represented my interests, including the one I worked for (though technically I was not living back in my district at the time I was working for him).

I'll take my Repub Congressman as he works his way up the ranks..
He's inherited most of Hastert's staff from when he was Speaker..
As soon as he supported bombing Assad, which I supported, he picked up a TEAparty primary..
Are we back to one-issue voting??
I'm still watching the at least four RINOparty primaries, especially against Amash .

Yep and the One-Issue is "Are you a democrat or a republican?" with most voters in most places.

Here in Illinois, we still have a little bit of respect for the better man, as shown by the election of Sen. Kirk for President Obama's old seat..
Much as Manchin acts like a Republican, Kirk often sides with Democrats, blunting the anti-Repub effect for his 2016 reelection..
Kirk also has the SD Sen. Johnson-stroke effect going for him, which helped reelect Johnson for the last time in 2008 .

Cruz said he doesn't work for the party bosses, he works for his constituents. He's popular at home. Standing on principle is difficult for politicians because representing the special interests is where the money comes from. We need more representatives like Cruz and Lee who work for the people and not the lobbiests. I wish there was a democrat I could say the same thing about.

I don't have enough space for all those Democrats..
Sen. Lee is now more unfavorable in Utah than favorable, by a 42-52%..
Local Repub leaders are furious at him for embarrassing the state of Utah, which depends on out-of-state tourism..
It has been made very clear to Lee by Utahans he does not represent what is best for Utah .

Should Cruz's Texas constituents have to pony up the 24 billion he cost the nation??
Which Castro do you think can take him out in 2018??
Since Cruz's father has injected himself fully into politics with all the things he has said you've heard, he is fair game .

What swing voters do is different than what most voters do. Unless one of your parties significantly underperformed and the other significantly over performed, then most of the people stuck with their party line. My districts swings back and forth between parties, but they tend to all be ubber conservatives with one exception who was booted out as quickly as they came in.

Relating to my earlier post, I have to say that Bernie Sanders is true to his beliefs, just as are Cruz and Lee, although I really dislike Sanders politics. I have to give him credit.

Going after Cruz's father would be a mistake. He's a great public speaker with a compelling personal story. He can more than handle his own.

The democrats own this mess, 100%. They passed a poorly written partisan bill with a parliamentary trick. They didn't read it prior to it's passage and they have done a miserable job in it's implementation. The billions that the shut down may or may have not cost is a down payment on the trillions that Obamacare will cost the economy.

Do you think there is much to the stated # of 63% of voters in Republican Congressional districts that want to throw out the bums..
Imagine if Repubs had not blown those 5 Senate seats in 2010 and 2012..
The Senate would have switched when Lautenberg died and Mitch could have pulled the "nuclear option" plug..
How would Christie have scheduled the election for Senate and would Christie have run for Senate, keeping the Senate Repub??
For my money, Christie is the only Repub with a mind "global" enough to handle the 50 different primaries/caucuses..
Just look at how Newt got thrown out in Virginia .

What I have observed is swing voters tend to vote the candidate without that much regard to party. It is the old am I doing better or about the same from last time or am I doing worse. Usually when they are doing worse is when they will switch from the person they voted for last time. Then there may be a hot issue that is important to them, one hot issue may decide whom they vote for with everything else forgotten.

But the number of swing voters vary from state to state and the majority of swing voters lean towards one party over the other.

The fact is any politician that has spent more than 10 years in Washington has lost track with reality and has gained that, I know what is best for my constituents attitude. They stop listening to them and become entrench in which ever party they belong to politics. But in a nut shell, one person reality is another person's fantasy land.

No, because if they throw out their current GOP rep they will just replace them with another GOP rep. There is a lot of time between now and Nov. 2014 for this to all go away for them.

Meh. Hard to generalize swing voters except on a district by district basis. The swing voters in my area tend to be more of the "Well, I don't know anything about them, but they haven't done anything to piss me off, so I will stick with the incumbent" voters. Some are the "I want to be on the winning side but don't have time to really do politics, so I will just follow whatever the polls say" group thinkers. I am the anti-incumbent voter as a matter of anti-establishment principle voter these days.

If you spoke to Republicans in Sanders former home of Burlington, VT as well as to those he sold out for wind-farms on the Green Mountain ridges, you'd get a different POV..Sanders is reviled in the "Northeast Kingdom" for being in the back-pockets of French-Canadian wind-millers.

Going after Cruz's father would be a mistake. He's a great public speaker with a compelling personal story. He can more than handle his own.
Democrats already have the two Cruzs on tape and ready to go for ads..

Democrats are the only ones who use Parliamentary tricks..
Dems also helped Bush-43 out of his Medicare part D mess..Repubs right now, not so much .
