A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 42% of Likely U.S. Voters think the president’s views are closest to their own when it comes to the major issues facing the country. But just as many (42%) say their views come closest to those of the average Tea Party member instead.

42% Identify with Obama Politically, 42% with the Tea Party - Rasmussen Reports™

Romney was right when he said they had a tough row to hoe because so many people have government as a conduit to thieve on their behalf. The Gimme, Gimme, Gimme Party of punitive taxation and spread the wealth around".

Then there's the Tea Party. Pro Liberty, pro Limited Government, pro Sane and Fair Taxation... not very appealing to the takers of Parasite Nation.

You may find yourself living in a shotgun shack
You may find yourself working less than 30 hours a week
You may find yourself behind the wheel of a tiny fuel efficient automobile
You may find yourself eating inedible food from my beautiful wife
You may ask yourself, well, how do I get on healthcare.gov?

Letting the debt go high, underwater till we drown
Kiss the U.S. goodbye, can't nobody slow me down
On whom will you depend, after the money's gone?
Once you worked full-time, but you're only part-time now

You may ask yourself, how do I work this website?
You may ask yourself, where is that 25 hundred dollar savings?
You may tell yourself, this is not affordable health care
But you should say to yourself, at least I still have this shotgun shack

Letting the debt go high, underwater till we drown
Kiss the U.S. goodbye, can't nobody slow me down
On whom will you depend, after the money's gone?
Once you worked full-time, but you're only part-time now

This website will never work, this website will never work,
This website will never work, this website will never work

bull**** lies--now I feel dirty like a lying fright-winger for using their language

Pro Liberty (except when it comes to pot, Muslims, and gays), Pro Limited Government (except when it comes to the defense establishment or what people are allowed to do in the privacy of their own bedrooms and what kind of ganja they want to smoke).

You're just as full of the bullcrap and Kool-Aid that you accuse Obama supporters of having and just as blind to it.

Not to mention a significant portion of that 42% who agrees with Obama may be agreeing with what he says and not what he does (those being two radically different things).

Glad to be in the sane 16%.

my sentiments exactly. Partisanship is insane gridlock, though I thought the video was a nice parody of the Talking Heads

Evidently 42% is the number of wisdom-challenged Americans who would support him if he told them to go jump off a cliff.

OK...I am definitely for drug decriminalization (not just pot), for gay marriage, for drastic cuts in military spending - and have nothing in particular against Muslims. Also, I do identify with the tea party movement, to a great extent. And I am not some unusual specimen, of course: the very core of tea parties is historically libertarian.

When people were responding to the poll's vaguely defined questions, maybe many of them meant something different from what the Unthinking Left thinks they must think?

Or not. Plenty of reasonable people (of all colors) just seem to want the first black president to be a success so badly...Sentiments clouding our judgment is nothing new or rare, surely.

He didn't have the experience. They should have waited until he did. Now we're seeing the cost of those premature hopes.

Not only that, but IMO liberalism doesn't work. Too many people think it does.

I identify with the Tea Party and I have no problem with muslims, gays, decriminalizing drugs, and am no fan of wars.

The Tea Party has a common desire of smaller and less intrusive government, that does not mean we all march in lockstep.

There were plenty of maniacs at the Occupy Wallstreet protest, yet liberals did not follow the same logic of finding the most extreme members and trying to paint the entire movement with that brush.

Despite the liberal media's zeal to discredit the Tea Party, the real truth of it is many Americans know someone (or many) that identify with the Tea Party and what they hear in the news vs what they see when they meet people face to face just doesn't match up.
