An upcoming story in the Spanish newspaper El Mundo reports that the U.S. National Security Agency swept up data on 60 million phone calls in Spain over the course of one month in 2012.
This latest revelation comes from documents uncovered by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden. The El Mundo story was written by Glenn Greenwald and Germán Aranda.

Sounds like some "ruptura del clima de confianza", does it not?

I just hope that the protest by the combined forces of American libertarian right and non-authoritarian left are high-profile and loud enough, so that the Spaniards and others associate this with the practices of two last administrations, and not with the nation as a whole.

All ethical concerns (of which there are many) aside, it seems to me that casting that wide a net would be counterproductive. Even with computer-assisted targeting of certain words in these conversations, that's a huge amount of data for analysts to wade through for anything useful.
