Inside the Messy but Moneyed Republican Plan to Neutralize the Tea Party

Finally, the Republican establishment finds its spine and grows a pair. After taking a beating led by the Tea Party golden boy (Sen. Ted Cruz), Center-Right Republicans have decided it's time to fight back against Tea Party candidates and take back something that's actually their own - their party!

This article Inside the Messy but Moneyed Republican Plan to Neutralize the Tea Party - NationalJournal.com tells all concerning the party's plan to oust Tea Party candidates and win back "main street" voters.

    Good Luck!

here in Georgia the establishment moved up the Republican primary from July to May in hopes of getting more participation to prevent someone so far right that they would even lose Georgia. This started way before the shut down. but I seen what you are talking about. Michelle Nunn who will probably be the Democratic Nominee would be favored over Broun if he is the Republican nominee. I do think the Republican establishment here in Georgia see that writting on the wall and have ever since M. Nunn announced her try for the Democratic nomination. Almost everyone in Georgia loved her daddy, form Dem Senator Sam Nunn and quite a few of us old foggies would like to send another Nunn to Washington.
This Reform Party member thinks it is high past time that we start electing Americans to congress and the presidency who put America first and their political party further down the line. But for way too long we have been electing Republicans and Democrats who happen to be Americans instead of Americans who happen to be Republicans and Democrats.

pretty funny stuff.....the internal GOP pendulum swingin' is awfully entertaining to watch.

establishment republicans have always had balls.... it's their actions that caused the TP to rise into power.

now they want everyone ot believe they are actually heros battling the invading force or something.... basically, they are hoping that everyone forgets about they acted before the TP came around.

I hope they are honest in their campaigns.. I hope they say things like

" we're big government conservatives and proud of it... and we're here to spend the **** out of your money.. and after it's gone, we'll borrow more and spend it too "

"read my lips, much more spending!!"

Thank Goodness. When we put really conservative, Tea Party candidates like John Mccain and Mitt Romney up for election, they always lose. Hopefully now we can get some actual moderates in there, unlike those guys, who had no ties to the establishment whatsoever.

Sarcasm...gotta love it. But you're right. Neither McCain nor Romney were true Conservatives. McCain's a Moderate-Republican and Romney was...whatever he decided to be whenever the wind blew and somebody flashed some cash before his eyes.

The Republican Party hasn't had a real, truly electable Conservative candidate since Reagan. Of course, no possible Republican candidate who claims to be a Conservative today can come close to reaching Reagan's conservative stature. After all, he'd been honing his ideological craft since 1945. So, by the time he finally did get elected President he (and his Administration) knew exactly what he wanted to do. Thus, when people say Reagan was a true Conservative you know they spoke the truth about him.

Find another Republican who's been at it for half as long as Reagan was and I'd say you've found yourself the next viable Presidential candidate for the Republican Party. Any other candidate who claims to be a Conservative-Republican IMHO is just someone trying to pull the wool over your eyes. He (or she) is just masquerading as a Conservative when in truth he (or she) is just another politician trying to get your vote.

It's going to be fun watching Big Money Republicans going after Big Money Tea Partiers, a free for all of the odious in opposition to the subliterate.

I can only imagine what stupid thing Palin is going to say about this.

One of these days, someone will have to tell me why Republicans have to be moderate to get elected, but Democrats don't.

Dems haven't had a moderate since Bill Clinton. Al Gore was a far-left loon and won the popular vote. Kerry was even further left and he made a legitimate fight against Bush's 2nd term. Obama is further left still and he's a two-term president.

All this talk about Republicans needing moderation, yet Democrats go even further away from reality and maintain electability. Seems unfair.

    Pick me, I'll tell you!

    1. Your premise is false. The Democratic party is basically a centrist party, even a center right party.

    2. Republicans usually run on the craziest rightwing agenda on the state level, but of course only win in crazy rightwing states. Thankfully, demographically, those states are disappearing one by one.

    3. On the national level, Americans are too bright to fall for the crazy failed rightwing agenda, so Republicans can't get elected on that level unless they lie and pretend to be rational, but even that isn't working very well any more.

In a geopolitical sense, true. In an American sense, not so much.

Wrong. Actually I've seen Democratic platforms that were far beyond loony. Fortunately you don't hear about them because you get the funny sound bytes from Republicans, thanks to facepalm phrases like "legitimate rape".

Americans are too bright. Yeaaaaaaaah...no. Dat ain't it.
