Free speech doesn't protect you from getting fired. You're confusing being opposed to what she said, with being respectful of her employer's rights to fire her for putting them in a bad light. :shrug:

Is anyone else more concerned that a random helpdesk person is more willing to tell the truth in a straightforward manner, with her job literally on the line, than the President?

If the president were a little more honest with the American people, perhaps media members wouldn't be turning to helpdesk people for that information in the first place.

Any you're forgetting who her employer is. She was a public servant. She didn't work for Obama. She worked for you and I. I don't know about you but I don't have much sympathy for the minister of propaganda.

Idiotic. I actually do work at an answering service and we have an account that answers questions about the Healthcare exchange. I would have taken Hannity's call and done the exact same thing as this woman did. In the answering service business the ONLY calls that we are not allowed to take are telemarketers. Otherwise we take and answer ALL calls regardless if its the media or not. Its how the company makes money...answering calls and doing what the instructions tell us to do.

It is obvious to me that this woman was fired because it happened to be Hannity that called. I would bet that if it was from some other non-conservative media we'd never have heard of this because she wouldn't have been fired.

Actually you are incorrect. I work in the answering service industry and in my company she would not have been fired for simply answering questions that she was SUPPOSE to answer no matter who called.

Actually I think she has a case against them if she wished to pursue it and I'm sure there are some attorneys wanting to make a name for themselves waiting in the wings to do just that.

After all if the government contractor failed to train the operators in how to conduct calls from the media and failed to recognize the potential of such calls occurring due to all the interest being shown in the media over Obamacare. We shall see.......

Except that is not what happened here. She answered the questions put to her by Hannity, none of it negative...unless that was in her script. :shrug: When answering calls in an answering service company you have a script which you must follow. If the answer to the question that the caller asks isn't in that script then you tell them that you "are not sure" or "don't know" and then tell them that you can get them the answer (either in a few minutes or can have someone call them back).

It is when you don't follow the script that you can get fired. And from the evidence that I have available she did just fine. Even if she had messed up on the script bit they usually give you a few chances before firing you as they attempt to train you further to make sure you get it right. This process can take 3-4 months before they fire you.

What part don't you get? This was a hotline set up for the operators to answer questions. The woman didn't think she did anything wrong because she did not have training that specified what to do when dealing with the media. That 1-800 number was for EVERYONE to call in if they had any questions.

When I was a programmer, none of my bosses ever told me that I couldn't write a program that erased all the data in their databases

Somehow, I knew better than to do so.

My first thought was Lily Tomlin who played a telephone operator on the old Laugh-In show! "one ringy-dingy, etc." I'm certain that Hannity didn't mean for the woman to lose her job, and that something will be done for her. Frustrated people do spout off sometimes, but this is too much! Stating evidence of what she was aware of is not bad-mouthing anyone...it was the truth, and she may not have known who Hannity was, since I doubt she would be watching Fox! What a mess!

She contends there was nothing in her training that said thou shalt not answer questions from radio host and there is no evidence to prove otherwise. She was obviously fired for political reasons and I wouldn't be surprised if the comp she worked for didn't receive a call from the white house demanding her termination. It's the Chicago way.

That's you. Ms. Davis had only been on the job for a couple of weeks, never held a position like this before....didn't have any training on dealing with the media. She was there to answer everyone's questions and she did it very well. :lamo

Can the snarky remarks when you obviously have never been in the answeirng service business. Yes, lots of comanies would work just as you claim. Except that 1: This is not the kind of businesses you have obviously ever worked in. 2: She didn't tell Hannity anything about her companies workings until after she was fired. Before then she did her job by answering the questions that Hannity put to her about Obamacare. Like she was suppose to. In the answering service business you answer questions and take messages. In this case since it was apparently dedicated answering questions about Obamacare. So no messages more than likely. Just answering from a script. For an answering service, be it a hotline or not you do what you are suppose to regardless of who calls. In this case answer questions about Obamacare. If I attempted pass Hannity along to my HR department or my boss I would have been fired for not doing my job. How do I know this? I 1: Work in an answering service business and 2: I actually do answer questions regarding the health care exchange.

No, it isn't truly the private sector. When dealing with government contractors it becomes that blurred area where it is public/private. The taxpayers are paying for it.

Wrong

An employee working for a company that has a contract with the govt is a private employee, not a civil servant.
