Young people in 45 states will see their health insurance premiums increase under Obamacare because the law relies on the money they pay into the system to offset the cost of caring for older enrollees, according to a new study.

Virginia leads the pack, as individuals aged 27 and under will see their health insurance premiums jump by 252.5 percent -- $416.55 --

Virginians under the age of 50 will see their premiums jump by an even greater percentage, rising from $228 to $991.03.

Ohhh... to be young again... ROTFLOL.

Homosexual or heterosexual, you have no choice... bend over and say Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww... ObamaKare is on its way. Because he cares.

As Felonious Bill Clinton used to say while biting his lip... "Ah feeel yer pain." ... and thanks for yer support Suckers!

That's why there is that exemption to allow kids to stay on their parents' insurance until they are 26. Without that Obama's base would rebel at the cost to them. He gambled and won that his base was so selfish that if their costs are pushed off on someone else they would be fine with it. 27 is the new age to become conservative.

Insurance is a pool. If we are to allow old sick people coverage, then young healthy ones have to pay more. Is it fair? No. But, what in life is?

Personally, I'd be self employed if not for the group healthcare. Over the past ten years or so, if I were to have covered myself and family, I'd have paid 5X as much, out of pocket, and have crappier coverage. Now, under the new scheme, I might be breaking even. Group covereages will weaken and cost more while rates for the 50-plus on individual plans may strengthen. This may open up an opportunity for me to go back into my own business.

Heritage Foundation? Really?

I'm tired of these stats. Here is the truth. Premiums are going to increase, first off because the Obama plans cover more than the high deductible plans most younger folk receive. Not a single one of these articles I have read actually compares comparable plans. They take the cheapest currently available high deductible plan and compare it to the Obama plan with higher coverage and argue that it is proof of massive premium increases. Comparing apples to oranges is dishonest at best, but most Americans have so little understanding of basic statistics they don't even see it.

Yes, we're selfish because previous generations shipped all the jobs overseas, jacked up the price of education, and stagnated wages so that you need a master's degree in order to get a job that pays enough to make your rent. But while we're obtaining all of this education, taking on debt and having basically no money until we're almost 30, we should be paying for health insurance. Or we could just start flipping burgers when we'er 16 and then move on to the better jobs later. Oh wait, there aren't any, and there is no advancement anymore without higher education. Congratulations on creating this system for us. Now you have to live with it.

Well I didn't create this system. I also didn't buy in to going to college on a student loan. I don't subscribe to the common perception that living in debt is normal. I don't have any credit cards, car payments, mortgage or student debt. In fact I don't pay interest to anybody. I started my own business and provide jobs for others, but I don't hire kids. They are largely irresponsible and have an inflated slf worth. In fact I have never hired anyone younger than I am. Not entirely on purpose, there have been a couple I thought were younger until we filled out the paperwork. Thing is today's youth got us in to our current mess because they fell for Obama's sales pitch. So the future you inherit is yours. Enjoy it, you've earned it by not considering the long term consequences.

Artificially inflated wages and unions can be thanked for much of this, and in the free market jobs will go to places where it is more efficient.

jacked up the price of education,
Thank government...

and stagnated wages
Thank government for crippling business and making it an employers market. Their idiotic programs of forcing banks to loan money to people who couldn't pay it back was a shot of heroin. Felt good at first and all the Socialists patted themselves on the back, but when the junk ran out... the harsh realities set in.

Fewer jobs means less competition, and well... ObamaKare and ObamaIdiocy has certainly hampered job creation. But hey... he's got more folks dependent on government... which is great for the Socialists and the parasites they try to breed.

If only we had elected Romney, we could have gotten rid of Romneycare forever....

A misleading article, under PPACA people are required to have enough insurance to cover health issues. Prior to PPACA, people could buy catastrophic insurance to cover the event they are in a bad accident. They didn't cover health issues, these policies must offer a minimal amount of health insurance to cover sickness and therefore are more expensive than the previous policies.

That is some truly hateful selfish intent right there. Blaming todays youth, many of whom were to young to actually vote at the time, for creating the problems of your generation is shocking. It might even be evil. This is like blaming a toddler for being abandoned and if it dies from exposure it's the child's fault.

The youth didn't implement Medicare or Social Security, the two biggest pyramid schemes the world has known. The youth of today didn't create The Great Recession. The youth of today didn't create the job outsourcing bonanza the U.S. is facing. And the youth of today aren't the ones preventing tax cuts for bringing jobs back to America from being implemented.

You are a truly evil individual if your beliefs are sincere.

Me too, I have a good job outside of my personal business (rental property). Now that Obama has effectively destroyed the great insurance I had I may fall back and focus on more rental property as this administration has made it very hard on home ownership. More and more people are seeking rental these days to avoid property taxes and various municipal taxes.

Well actually they ARE the ones preventing tax cuts for bringing jobs back to America. They are supporting a guy who has no interest in those policies. They are also the ones who support this health insurance scam that is sure to bankrupt us, just as designed. I wasn't around for the beginning of SS or Medicare. I was around to see the liberal media crash the fix for SS though. You remember that? Turns out Clinton assembled a commission to study various ways to fix it, and they did. Thing is by the time the study as complete the results were delivered to GWB. Remember that? Yup, the liberals called it "Bush's plan" even though he had nothing to do with it and did a terrible job selling it. You think your young liberals are on the right side with these programs? Hardly. The worst part is they expended a good amount of energy and resources destroying a better solution than this health insurance scam will end up being. Ignorance could perhaps be forgiven, but WILLFUL ignorance? I have no sympathy for that.

People won't be signing up on the exchanges in groups. They will be making individual decisions on whether they should or shouldn't sign up. If the price is too high, the young and health won't sign up, and the premiums on the exchanges will skyrocket and the plan will collapse as an abysmal failure. Its that simple. Why else would Obama's team be spending hundreds of millions of dollars to advertise to the YOUNG AND HEALTHY. The ENTIRE LAW revolves around the belief that the young and healthy will sign up for overpriced coverage.

What happened to all that bull**** about fairness?

Yeah, we have a couple houses. One is a duplex we rent out. Thinking of dividing this place up (2700 sq ft) and renting it out too. We'll probably buy a smaller house for ourselves.

That might be true.

You left out the little part about having to pay an increasingly steep fine every year if they don't.

I cannot sign up,,,tried,,,several times. I am waiting on the IRS to show up with AR's and arrest me for not signing up because I could not? I will yell,,Sibelius..they will say,,Your denied, you anarchist!

We are lucky enough to live in a college town, so anyting within 4 miles will rent pretty fast

47.50 for an individual, big whoop

That is for a child in the first year. Why does it not surprise me that you have very little knowledge of the law.

The fee in 2014 is 1% of your yearly income or $95 per person for the year, whichever is higher. The fee increases every year. In 2016 it is 2.5% of income or $695 per person, whichever is higher.

In 2014 the fee for uninsured children is $47.50 per child. The most a family would have to pay in 2014 is $285.

Sure you did. You vote for Republicans who staunchly defend higher student loan rates, cut taxes for the wealthy and make the middle class pay for lengthy wars, uncompromisingly defend the right of wealthy corporations to ship jobs and money overseas, obliterate workers' rights and decent wages. Everything they stand for involves destroying my generation for the benefit of yours.

We believed our elders when they told us to study hard and go to college and we'll have gainful employment. Instead now we're told to shut up and flip burgers and be grateful not to be homeless. We are the first generation in modern history that will be poorer than our parents. Voting in one president doesn't make changes like that. The right wing policies that have been gutting the middle class since the 70s does. But now we're growing up. And we're cynical. And we have no illusions. You and yours stole our future from us, and we're going to take it back.

Thank government...

How do you not understand that power is power, regardless of whether or not it has an official charter?
