Politico: Senate leaders nearing a deal

There was never any deal, and they could not override the President's unilateral changes to the law's timeline. The defunding rider was later replaced with three other offers which were all summarily rejected by Reid. The position of the President and majority leader of the Senate has been that we want what we want and there will be no negotiation...

Good evening pero...

Good evening, AP.:peace

I'm beginning my third week of furlough. Mrs. Hays is ready for me to go back to work.

Cotton would be up if he had not been honest that he would have bombed Syria, whether you like his position of not..Also, The two clintons factor cannot be discounted..Linc has this one a draw..I would like to call MT a draw but if I took my heart out of it, this one is still a lean R.

I will keep my eye on these two, the good thing about doing a monthly is I can change them when I feel like it.

Good evening 2m... Luckily, were still operating at ~99%, but payments have slowed a bit...

We'll see what happens. But so far it hasn't been good for the Republicans. But I think come Feb of next year this shutdown will be long forgotten, replaced by other issues, events and happenings. From the reports I seen and heard, there was a deal made prior to the shutdown for spending to be at 986 billion and then the rider was attached after the two side agreed to the spending deal.

I love the blog Pero..
You can move McConnell to 'likely' or even 'solid' Republican..
I can't explain it yet, but something about the two races in South Carolina has been sticking with me for a while..
You must admit that Reid and McConnell are currently the two grown-ups in DC right now.

Leaders of neither party can make deals their caucus won't support...

Perhaps, but nothing say I have to like 'em and would rather see 'em gone. But think back, it was McConnell and Biden who got us out of the last mess.

Well, yes and for sure. But if McConnell and Reid do make a deal, you can be sure Reid will bring it up for a vote in the senate and I am sure enough Republican's will support it that it can't be filibustered and it will pass. Now the house is still an open question.

What would Grasshopper say??We live in the Present Moment..

Biden's time has come and gone..Obama owes the Clinton too much..

Yes, the Senate can jam the House, but it doesn't infer there was a deal between the House and Senate before all this began...

The House is already putting together another muddy CR and trying to get it to the Senate before the adults in the Senate finish their business..

There is no guarantee a cabal of headless Repub Senators led by Cruz and Lee won't filibuster..

House Repubs actually want to see what will happen on Friday with no deal so they can say,"I told you so".

I always like Joe, he was one senator that rubbed me the right way even though I disagreed with him more than I ever agreed with his politics.

For sure, it is like being between a rock and a hard place. But wait, the Republicans are there now. how many times have I said on this site and on our old site, when it comes down to battles like this it is all about perceptions. Who is right or wrong, what the reality of the real reasons for something to happen or not, it is how the people, America perceive the events. In this battle, regardless who is right or wrong, the reality of the politics involved, most Americans see the House republicans as being at fault and thus heap most of the blame on them.

Of course in a battle like this one, Republicans side with republicans and Democrats with democrats, the battle for the public opinion are for those of neither party and the GOP has lost that battle. The only question now is if they can get something in return instead of an unconditional surrender?

Roger on Lee and Cruz, but with senators like Collins, Alexander, murkowski, McCain, Isakson,Ayotte, Perhaps Chambliss and a few others, my feeling is these senators would vote for cloture and over ride a filibuster.

I don't believe it will affect House races much in the next election unless the House absolutely caves. Voters generally like their Representative until they no longer represents the reason he/she was voted into office in the first place, and I'm not seeing this at this point...

If they start a TALKING filibuster, as few as two Senators could rotate and destroy the World economy, which they joke about..

I have been following a couple of sites that rate the house races by districts and not by the nation's generic polls. Both sites as of 9 Oct put the solid republican seats at 205 where one, cook puts the democratic solid seats at 163, the other at 168. Solid basically mean no way in hades will those seats switch parties.

I would agree with that...

It was my understand that a vote of cloture cuts off or stops any filibuster. So I checked it out, here is what it says:

cloture - The only procedure by which the Senate can vote to place a time limit on consideration of a bill or other matter, and thereby overcome a filibuster. Under the cloture rule (Rule XXII), the Senate may limit consideration of a pending matter to 30 additional hours, but only by vote of three-fifths of the full Senate, normally 60 votes.

Until one sees the tape of Larry Klayman today after Cruz and Palin spoke, the depth of the TEAhatred of Obama cannot be measured..

The depth of the hatred that the tea party has for our President neither shocks nor amazes me.. It is, at this point, expected.

When you think they have reached the bottom, they show you again today at the War Memorials..
"Obama needs to get off his knees, put down the Koran, and come out of the WH with his hands up"..
And this kklown your state elected in the OK 2nd rails against the Stimulus while taking $370,000 from it.

There "is" no bottom for these people.. It is almost pointless to vote in Ok. if you are a Democrat, but we do anyway and "did" get a Democrat into the state legislature....Tiny steps is all we can do out here...
