Obama Rejects Latest House GOP Offer

I think Congress should increase the debt limit on October 17th and then go into recess until January 2014. If Obama doesn't want to negotiate there is really no point in them being there.

Latest word is that the Democrats not only won't give the Republicans squat, but now want to demand their own concessions, like ending the sequester.

It's time for the Republicans to just pass a clean CR and a clean Debt limit extension. Cut their losses. If they lose the sequester I will be a very unhappy camper.

Why should Obama back down on anything when it's clear the Republicans are folding and willing to do pretty much anything he says he wants?

Well, that's partly the way he see's it. He can demand 100% of what he wants, refuse to negotiate, and sit back and wait for Republicans to fold, knowing that each day they don't hurts them. It's a win-win for him, and in the middle of the Obamacare roll-out trainwreck.

Thus it was a very bad idea to pick this fight. It's not rolling over to just accept current policy while not allowing Democrats to advance the ball. That's what minorities are supposed to do. Instead, the Republicans are trying to get victories from a position of weakness and just hoping Democrats fold. Which wouldn't normally be a bad bet, Democrats are notorious folders, but not when their position of strength is this commanding.

Dumb fight to pick, and it tells me that Ted Cruz is not ready for prime time.

That is not vey lucid on your part. And we are talking about the same chain smoking Ayn Rand who spoke of smoking and Social Security and then wound up taking advantage of Social Security when she was dying of lung cancer due to smoking.
So you are saying she converted to being a liberal democrat then?

That's why it was really stupid of the Republicans to pick this fight in the first place. They were always going to lose it.

And the Right operates in the elementary arena of arithmetic, not realizing the complicated real world takes at the very least advanced algebra.

Not always....

1 lousy president + 1 idiot VP + 1 feckless Senate Majority Leader - 1 House Speaker [ demoted to House Minority Leader ] = mountains of debt and failed policy, both foreign and domestic.

Some of it is fairly simple.

i question anyone who thinks altruism is a economic sin.

I haven't read Rand, I'm only familiar with her philosophy second-hand. But did she really think that?

Altruism is an economic sin, in my view, if it's defined as the state forcing people to be altruistic. Otherwise it's just people doing what people do, helping each other out according to the dictates of their conscience. Forced altruism is an economic sin because it distorts economic incentives in a way that true altruism does not.

Who of rational mind could have actually predicted we would have two intractable immovable agenda driven, I do not care about America I am going to close down the other party even if it takes ruining our government to do so in what appears to almost be an attempted political homicide/suicide bomber plot...refusing any offers at all and with finger on the detonator.... who reasonably could predict that... it was like predicting someone would fly themselves and all else aboard airliners into buildings... who would do that?

With all the folks right here that are actually suffering, feeling the pain, and with the only folks in sight offering any compromise, offering funding bills, offering to negotiate... well, I know folks on the other side are blinded by the O'so stupid One's mesmerizing lights... surely you can open your eyes a bit, look away from what is causing the blindness...

 generally I would agree. The last two weeks should have been Every Day Pounding Home The Latest Failure of the Obamacare Rollout, while using the Debt Ceiling as a sole negotiating tactic.

No, it should have been the latter part, heading into the next election. That's more than sufficient. The Democrats utilized that strategy to win in 2006 in regards to the Iraq war. From 2005-2006, every day was a drumbeat of "the war is lost", with a break for attacking the administration over Katrina. I'm sure there will be plenty of Obama incompetence to harp on. There's just no good reason for the Republicans to make the next election about the Republicans.

Well, good of you to start the ball rolling.

Republicans should send the Senate a bill that raises the debt ceiling for 3 months. Then send separate bills that pay for every other aspect of government except Obamacare and let them all sit on Harry Reids desk. If the non essential government workers stay home till the end of time, who cares?

Yep, it would have been much smarter for them to wait and see what happens when Obamacare takes effect. If it's successful, you didn't waste a lot of time and political capital fighting it. And if it's not successful, you can say "I told you so" and have a lot more support to repeal/change it.

The voters will care next November.

Breitbart! Oh dear God.

The real story is the GOP didn't offer to restart the government at all. It only offered to raise the debt ceiling for 6 weeks.

In short, Breitbart's report is false. And you actualy repeated it!

Perfect.

Did the Big 0 offer a compromise in return?

If I'm the Speaker, it's over. The door is shut and the President can watch his administration sink slowly into nothingness.

I'm not wondering who shut down the government. I know it is some ideological nut wads who take Ayn Rand to heart. Whoa six whole weeks in a nation that has been around 200+ years.

The Dems have had since last Spring to come up with a budget and have not done the work to do so.

The Chicks have come home to roost.

Yeah, they offered to raise the debt limit, but not to open the government. The GOP are children.

They already provided bulls to open most of the government.

If the functions of the government are desired by the Dems, why do these bills sit unvoted upon?

It's not that far fetched. We've had partial government shutdowns in the past.

This farce might be the end of the Republican party. Most Americans are starting to see the break with reality.

The Republican party already ended and the internal Democrats who call themselves Republicans are what is ending it.

Maybe they will care that Senate Dems had bills that reopened the government but chose to do nothing with them because of their unwillingness to do anything regarding the disaster that is Obamacare.

Define altruism as to relates to redistribution through tax policy.

I would think that any notion of this would completely eliminate any income for anyone above a defined amount and confiscation of anything exceeding a certain value. All people living on $50,000/year.

Bradjalina? You out there? Living on $50,000/year? How's that hit you?

You need to read her works again.

You and she seem to define the people who fit that category entirely differently.

For her, those who take what is not earned fit that definition and for you, those who work to earn what they feel they need fit that definition.

Why do you think thieves are good and workers are bad?
