In the hours since the government shut down, House Republicans have slowly but steadily been coming forward to say they're ready to pass a bill to fund the government with no strings attached.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the number of those Republicans hit 20 -- surpassing the magic 17 votes needed to pass a clean funding bill if all 200 Democrats stick together and team up with them. Of course, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) would have to be willing to put that bill on the floor in the first place.

I wonder what the chances of Boehner putting a clean funding bill to a vote are? I'm not going to hold my breath.

Here's A Tally Of Which House Republicans Are Ready To Fund The Government, No Strings Attached

Nonsense! We need our politicians to keep acting like spoiled children! If not, can we truly say we are the US of A?

I wonder why people like you and the media never talk about the Democrats in the House who voted with the Republicans such as the 17 House Democrats who supported the Republican push to eliminate the Obamacare tax on medical devices or the entire body of House Democrats who voted to guarantee the pay of those in the military during the shutdown? Why aren't you asking what the chances are of Senate Democrats taking up these bills for a vote? Because you know that at risk Senate Democrats would have to vote for them or risk losing their seats in 2014.

The Democrats didn't think the Republicans had the balls to do it (frankly, neither did I). They are still blaming the Republicans, and their soft brained supporters believe it. So as far as the Republican party is concerned they have already taken the hit for it. At this point not holding out for what they (we) want would be stupid. The CBO has told us Obamacare will bankrupt us, the Democrats and the President don't care because they have no intention of doing anything about the national debt. Eventually each member will be out of power and the long term problems will not be their problems, so they are ignoring them anyway. At some point the out of control spending has to stop, and this is as good a time as any. I tell you, when I took control of my debt and cut up the credit cards my nuts crawled up to about my neck. It's scary as hell, and it was one of the best things I ever did. People keep saying the debt can't be fixed, it's not true. It can be fixed and it needs to be. Congress members will only be Congress members for a short time, we will be Americans for a long time. What the Republicans are doing right now, believe it of not, IS the responsible thing to do.

The names of the ones who actually vote for it will be going onto my list of individuals whom I will never vote for. Their national political careers will be over so far as I'm concerned and any run for the White House in their future could not and would not be supported by me.

But the CBO was guessing, granted educated guessing, but still guessing.

Turns out, the premiums are cheaper than what the CBO used in their estimates. As of yet, I haven't seen any new projects from the CBO concerning the lower premiums.

I don't know how this stalemate will turn out, but either way, we Americans are getting screwed.

Obamacare premiums will be cheaper than the CBO projected.

Government by cowardice: Boehner won't bring a clean CR to the floor because it will pass and then the freakish tea party caucus will go after his head.

They are totally unhinged and he's totally craven.

It won't get by the senate or Ovbama so that side is irrelevant. Sorry, but the only way the minority is holding things up is by just not allowing the vote which would pass at this point. That is not democracy, that is a minority holding the country hostage. Leave it to the christian taliban to terrorize the US better than any other terrorist organization. Now we see why fundamentalists in the government do not work.

This is just nonsense. Last time I checked, the Republicans are no more a minority in the House than Democrats are a minority in the Senate. To suggest that only a minority passed the House motions is a flat out lie paraded by liberals and the media to protect the Senate and the President.

You want the House to take up a vote that some Democrats will support to create a majority, but you don't want the Senate to take up a House vote that some Democrats will support and create a majority and you don't want it to pass both houses of congress because the President will veto it. So, in other words, you're quite happy with Democrat intransigence but offended by Republican intransigence. Got it.

Just another apologist for Obama and Democrats hiding behind an "Other" lean.

Actually, there is a majority of house members who would vote for the funding but they are not allowed to because the vote is being prevented because boehner will not let it happen. Claiming otherwise is a lie. Of course, if i am wrong and a majority of the house would vote against it then by all means boehner should allow it to be voted on. You are lying and leaving out facts and pretending that all the republicans would vote in the same exact way when they would not.

Actually that part is irrelevant as per the law, but the senate has actually passed something that is waiting on the house to actually vote on which they have not. Besides, even in your imaginary world obama would still veto it as he has no reason to allow it through. You need to stop playing verbal gymnastics to cover for the minority of terrorists on the christian right willing to shut the government down because they are afraid people will like Obamacare. The people have spoken, the law has been passed. it has not been able to be repealed, the courts have declared it constitutional, and now it needs to be funded just like any other law the minority does not like.

Really, you can't possibly be that ignorant of the government process in your country so you must simply be shilling for the Democrats. Everything you've said above is equally valid for the numerous bills passed in the House over the past week or so that the Senate Democrats have refused to take up and vote on. If the Senate did, you'd find that all Republicans plus a dozen or two Democrats would vote in favor and send the bill to the President for signature. Harry Reid refuses to allow the Senate to freely vote on them because Obama does not want to be seen vetoing bills that will fund the government or parts of the government then placing the entire blame for the shutdown on the President and Democrats. Even if the President vetoed the bills, there is a strong chance that both houses of congress would have sufficient votes to override the veto.

It really is a shame that a Canadian has to school you on American government and the politics involved.

Yeah, because we wouldn't want obama to ruin his chances in 2016.

Another dumb retort - big surprise. You are aware that Obama is attempting to secure the Senate and gain control of the House in 2014 so that his second term, like the end of his first, doesn't continue to swirl the toilet, right?

Let me just say this fail logic just keeps on coming. For the same reason the dems cannot get the republicans out will be the same reason they cut their throats and let the dems in. They made a fundamental mistake. They went doing all this based on the idea that it is what people wanted. The people did not want extreme right BS. The only ones who wanted that are the tea party dufuses they surrounded themselves with. in 2014 if all you are voting for is to undo gridlock you vote dem because Obama is still there with the veto. You do not go further to the extreme. So pretty much they are pushing every purple congressional district blue. Worse yet they might end up fighting tea party crazies and blowing their warchest just to get nominated. They are doubling down on the wrong side, and they simply do not hold the block of elderly they used to because of their attacks on medicare.

Cowardice? They are risking their re-election. Sounds like bravery to me.

You don't end a shut down. You start it back up. You don't stop your car from being off, being off is its default state. You turn it on.

Likewise the government being off is its default state. Like a light in you home, leave it off untill you need it, use it, then turn it back off.

Living in a fantasy world must be very comforting for you.

either get a good one liner or argue the point. Otherwise just go away.

I was arguing the point, to the extent one was necessary in responding to your post. And just to be clear, I'll come and go as I please and hopefully you will as well.

I believe that happened Friday, and it was voted down in the House. Thats what CBS reported Friday afternoon.

I have not been able to find any voting record as of yet to see if the same Dems (17 or so) who voted in favor of the original House bill voted for or against the "clean" bill, really wouldnt expect to until late Monday or Tuesday.

We wouldnt be having to go through this is the President would have submitted a budget that his own party might have voted for...but even his own party votes against his proposed budgets. We wouldnt have to keep going through this Continuing Resolution crap every few months.

The People didn't want Obamacare either, but the Dems jammed it down everyone's throat. So tell us some more about doing things the People don't want.
