BBC News - Washington Navy Yard shooting: Capitol Police to review response

A tactical response team from the force was told by a supervisor to leave the scene instead of aiding municipal officers, police sources told the BBC.

The Capitol Police sources suggest they could have saved lives had they been allowed to go in.

Now I have yet to see something definitive on this report but I also haven't seen anything to contradict it more than 24 hours after it was first claimed.

If this turns out to be accurate then I'd really like to hear the explanation. I've got some ideas on how it might work but I'd also be pretty damned upset if my suspicions are correct.

That order, "Stand Down" sure seems to pop up a lot in the past few years.

To much civilian control and social engineering of the military.

I say that Obama should allow the Marines at 8th & I to put the bolts back in their rifles and have the Marine Corps go back to it's roots and follow the regulations / laws of the National Security Act of 1947.

The National Security Act of 1947 prescribes the general functions for the Navy, Naval Aviation, the Marine Corps, the Army, and the new Air Force. That portion of the Act pertaining to the Marine Corps reads as follows:

"The United States Marine Corps, within the Department of the Navy, shall include land combat and service forces and such aviation as may be organic therein. The Marine Corps shall he organized, trained, and equipped to provide fleet marine forces of combined arms, together with supporting air components, for service with the fleet in the seizure or defense of advanced naval bases and for the conduct of such land operations as may be essential to the prosecution of a naval campaign. It shall be the duty of the Marine Corps to develop, in coordination with the Army and the Air Force, those phases of amphibious operations which pertain to the tactics, technique, and equipment employed by landing forces. In addition, the Marine Corps shall provide detachments and organizations for service on armed vessels of the Navy, shall provide security detachments for the protection of naval properly at naval stations and bases, and shall perform such other duties as the President may direct: Provided, that such additional duties shall not detract from or interfere with the operations for which the Marine Corps is primarily organized. The Marine Corps shall be responsible, in accordance with integrated joint mobilization plans, for the expansion of peacetime components of the Marine Corps to meet the needs of war."

I don't think so.

I suspect that if this turns out to be accurate then the main reason they are called off was to retask them to Capital security......making sure that no Senator ended up with a splinter. If it turns out that these guys were called off to protect elected officials while letting others in need die then we've got a problem. It really is starting to get the feeling of Benghazi part II.

I can picture Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Barbra Boxer and all of the other libs in Congress hiding under their desk and screaming "Is there anyone with guns to protect us" ?

Dian Feinstein tweeting all of the libs in Congress, >"Move to the first floor, there's NRA lobbyist there, you'll be safe."<
