Oh I am not the only who thinks Putin blinked... the CONs were howling about the start of WWIII just a few weeks ago as Putin's junk yard dawgs barks, howled, growled and snarled. CONs were declaring the moving of 2 more Russian ships into the Med as a clear sign Russia wasn't going to back down, gave them unmatchable power, and trying to tie the start of WWI with acts such as these.

NOOOOW Putin is bending over backwards and Assad is an eager beaver. Not a done deal by any means, but not the WWIII CONs were claiming and certainly not any 'return to glory' for the Russians.

Well NOW is what we are talking about, and it would take a MASSIVE building program for the Russians to start almost from scratch in any attempt to challenge us on the Oceans.

The nation sitting quietly in the wings is China, not Russia.

China we can completely agree on.

You are the one however that said "Russia is leading the way to strip Syria of chemical weapons" so I went with what you said. But of course we both know that it will be conducted by the UN. Can't see why your picking at that.

And yes, you are the ONLY one that thinks that Putin backed down or capitulated. But Putin has been the rational voice thru the whole issue. Seeking all opportunities to avoid a US attack that even China agreed would inflame the entire region. But if the US was set on such folly, Russia had/has their plans.

And again why do you keep mentioning the US's military superiority over Russia, no one has said otherwise.

Sure, its the opinion of a lot of people around the world if you've been noticing op-eds in international papers, and, it's the opinion of a number of pissed off law makers right here at home.

Anyway, what's your point, that you disagree that Russia gained ground in the ME throughout this crisis? Good that's your op-ed!

Who wrote the opinion, Captain Obvious? They've always been a force in the ME, that's what got us so involved there.

You play fast and loose with what is said... from what you drag in here to what others say. I said EXACTLY what I meant, no need for you to try and push it farther down the road.

Putin sat back and used his minister's to rant and rave over what the Russians would do... until it was go time because for all some CONs insisted the Russian navy present in the Med could take us on- that is why i keep mentioning the Russians can't match us- some CONs in this very forum were just last week insisting the Russian navy could fight us.

So Putin balks and then walks in as if he represents and entirely different nation than his ministers and 'brokers' a deal- one that was suggested by an American...

Like I said, it is amazing to see CONs praising the Former head of the KGB just like the Commies of old. How times have changed...

And no, only a few very partisan CONs are praising Putin, calling Russia a regional power or supplanting the USofA as the world power. INVASION would have a great chance of destabilizing the region, a limited missile strike to punish Assad for using chemical weapons wouldn't. CONs seem to lack any understanding of degree- military action is not one size fits all bin. There is a huge difference between no fly zones and occupation, between limited strikes and crushing a regime with boots on the ground.

Many CONs blame this on a lack of leadership. No it is a lack of will among the American people who are mired down in a new Isolationist movement from our debacle in Iraq. Seems most Americans don't want anymore military glory, even if thousands of children die due to banned weapons. Funny how the CONs gave BushII credit for the Arab Spring until regime change got messy and then blamed Obama for not tamping it down.

Fact is Obama is showing leadership, CONs are showing their butts...

The region was already destabilized. It's just getting worse now, thanks to Obamas failed leadership and sheer stupidity on foreign policy. Iraq, Afgan, Libya and now Syria. Miserable failures designed by Obama, as everything he touches he makes worse. And that's not mentioning Egypt, where he turned his back on an American friend. Fine mess he made there for us.

Yep, he shows leadership alright, failure leadership. And the world knows it, that's why Putin made a fool out of him (America) so easily.

Russia is the same. Putin is the same.

If US failed in all the steps with Syria, it was not because the Russians suddenly become smarter. Your president was stupid. He lied enough.
No one was blaming him for putting a red line on Syria. Everyone started to blame him when he stated to pass the responsibility of the red line to american people, congress and the world and nothing to himself. He doesn't show himself as a strong leadership.
He used the Congress many times when he need it and ignored it most of times.
What do you expect to feel the people in Congress. They were about to meet each other and discuss about a case which your president made as a TOP ONE. But he said to all of them: "just leave it, I'll fix it with Russians". He doesn't show himself as a true American.
If British didn't followed him, it's not the fault of CONs.

Ahhh more CON crying sounding like the Commie whine of the Cold War era. fact is the region was de-stablished when BushII thought he could plants the seeds of democracy in the desert and the region CONvulsed. Far from Obama designing anything BushII and his neo-CON cabal set this crap fest in motion. Just how does Obama stop the process when a nation sickened and disillusioned just like after Vietnam, decides we are done overseas?

Mubarak was no friend, why do CONs insist on making international relations sound like a weekend party at a frat house? We were renting him with a huge 'aid' package most would call a bribe. Few Americans wanted anything to do with propping Mubarak up, doing anything in Libya, wanted out of Iraq so fast it was dizzying, and Afghanistan sat and purtrified- nation building was tried by the USSR and was a miserable failure but somehow BushII thought because he found an Afghani with a british accent and cool hat the rest of the nation was MTV ready...

Putin made a fool out of all the CONs frothing up about WWIII, comparing this to how WWI started, and claiming Russia would fight us in the Med.

CON it all you want, President Obama didn't do that snickering, sneering arrogant crap BushII did... Obama didn't demand the chemical weapons or we would INVADE, but surrender the chemical weapons or we strike certain facilities- BIG DIFFERENCE. BushII demanded the WMD or he would change the regime, President Obama wanted the chemical weapons removed or there would be strikes... BIG DIFFERENCE.

Far from 'defending' Syria Putin has blinked and is helping negotiate EXACTLY what President Obama wants- a solution without 'military action' that has the CONs in a frenzy and the American people nervous.

It is the world gone mad when the CONs open up their own chapter of the 'Hate America First' Club.

Russia has given President Obama EXACTLY what he wanted without the launch of a single missile... doesn't sound like Russia is a regional power but our bitch...

Not sure where you are from, around here 'strong leadership' gets called Tyrant or King by the CONs- do note it is the CONs who fling such poo. What the President has done is face the facts that after the debacle in Iraq America has withdrawn from the tuff guy strut to sit in the corner for awhile- just like after Vietnam.

Your line- "he used the congress many times when he needed it and ignored it most of times" makes no sense...

The Brits have their own version of the Vietnam Syndrome... that old 'fool me once shame on me' thing... no amount of push pull or persuade is getting them back into 'military action'.

But what amazes me is just as it looked like the Congress, American people, and UN Security Council was not going along with 'military action', Putin caves in- he easily could have just sat there and let the Obama plan fall apart, but something was going on behind the scenes and Putin saw he couldn't stop a US Navy strike, which after all his ministers lined up to saber rattle a failure to 'defend' would be a huge blow to the Russians in the Middle East.

Putin is a sneak thief, a coyote in the dead of nite. he balked and now President Obama has a bloodless victory....
