Israel and Russia enjoy generally friendly ties, and have deep economic and cultural relations bolstered by the more than 1 million immigrants from the former Soviet Union who live here. Putin visited Israel last year.....

Putin also congratulated Netanyahu on forming his new government....

    SYRIA'S OIL AND GAS SECTOR

    * Syria has not exported any oil since late 2011, when international sanctions came into force.

    * "Syria is not a major oil producer (as was Libya), nor is it a major transit point for oil and gas exports (as is Egypt)," said Julian Jessop, head of commodities research at Capital Economics.

"Instead the concern is the risk that Western intervention in Syria could prompt a wider regional conflict, given the support that Iran has provided to the regime of (President Bashar al-) Assad," he added.

    * Prior to the sanctions Syria produced 370,000 barrels per day (bpd), roughly 0.4 percent of global supplies, and exported less than 150,000 bpd, mainly to Europe. The major oil companies working there before the sanctions were Royal Dutch Shell and Total.

    * Syria's current production is estimated at just 50,000 bpd, all of which is refined domestically.

    * It is short of oil products and is forced to import them from abroad. Sales of oil products to Syria are still allowed, although most traders have refrained from doing business there.
It has been forced to resort to help from strategic ally Iran.

Also Iran's production is way down and they are importing gasoline.

Obviously Iran has been helping Syria because Syria is one of Iran's few allies in the region.

But the day may come when Iran decides to cut its losses and leave Syria to fend for itself.

Iran announced today that they will support who ever is elected to lead Syria.

Your the only one that thinks Putin has caved or capitulated, lmao! I'm unaware of anybody stating that the Russian navy could oppose the US navy, yet.
More CONvolutions! You drug that mess in here, own it! Don't dance away!

Ummm Russia isn't confiscating anything, the UN will... did that escape you?

Oh I am not the only who thinks Putin blinked... the CONs were howling about the start of WWIII just a few weeks ago as Putin's junk yard dawgs barks, howled, growled and snarled. CONs were declaring the moving of 2 more Russian ships into the Med as a clear sign Russia wasn't going to back down, gave them unmatchable power, and trying to tie the start of WWI with acts such as these.

NOOOOW Putin is bending over backwards and Assad is an eager beaver. Not a done deal by any means, but not the WWIII CONs were claiming and certainly not any 'return to glory' for the Russians.

Well NOW is what we are talking about, and it would take a MASSIVE building program for the Russians to start almost from scratch in any attempt to challenge us on the Oceans.

The nation sitting quietly in the wings is China, not Russia.

President Barack Obamaís abysmal failure to provide leadership during the Syrian crisis represents a turning point in the Middle East and has paved the way for President Vladimir Putinís Russia to emerge as the dominant regional force, a position it had surrendered after the breakup of the Soviet Union.

To avert abject humiliation, Obama has absurdly spun the situation into a victory achieved by the American threat of military force. Instead, it was Putin who played the role of international statesman and masterminded a watershed moment for the Middle East, in which Russia effectively supplanted the US as world leader.

I find it very hard to believe that any free, fair, democratic elections will be held in Syria anytime soon.

    Correct.
    Unless Allah makes it happen.

And what are the odds on that happening?

IT's not so much a "story" as it is an opinion piece.
