They did tell the local news source. Read my link.

Seems to me that would indicate clearly why the pastor was arrested but that may not be the actual charges, trumped up or otherwise, that he actually faces.

In case it wasn't clear, my point was simply that with the town's mayor, several elected officials, a sheriff's deputy and several residents all opposed to the pastor burning qurans in their nice little village, you can bet that the police were told to be on the lookout for him and to be sure to find something to arrest and charge him with so he can't carry out what he plans on carrying out. It's idiotic, in my view, to suggest that the reason he was arrested had nothing to do with his intent - that's just dishonest on its face.

What he was arrested for and what he was really arrested for are two different things. He was arrested for that which he COULD be arrested for by those who would have looked the other way were he not trying to burn the Korans. I think people are being awfully nave if they think what he was trying to do didn't play into it.

Ok. Disregard the facts. Yes, I am sure they were just picking on him for wanting to burn Korans. It is a damn lie to think anything else. It is stupid of me.

The sheriff had refused him a permit to set a bonfire in the park.

And it's dishonest to go after Mafia and drug kingpins for tax evasion when the real intent is to put criminals behind bars.

    It's just so dishonest

i also see the reverse potentially being present
    no one was paying attention
he would burn those books without an audience, if he obtained the requisite fire burning permit
and if he adhered to the local laws governing the possession of arms
so, to gain an audience - witness this thread - he defies authorities
and pretends the estoppel of his action is based on the korans to be burned rather than his non-compliance with the burning and weapons laws

He was arrested for misdemeanor open carry of a fire arm and improper trailer registration. Honestly if it weren't for his plans to burn the books, they would have let him off with a warning, or they may not have been targeting him at all.
