No usually the scientist that receive grant money follow the status quo and subject their work for corporate interest. An example albert szent-gyorgyi the man who discovered vitamin C could not get a dime from the government. Why, because his research was not "acceptable". Face the facts, your niece is mediocre......

Intellectuals have always been "hated" by non-intellectuals here. What has stemmed innovation has been the SCOTUS and their bungling of copyright law and the public domain. The public domain is what gave our country it's great edge in innovation, built that spirit. The last century has been a story of the SCOTUS neutering the public domain and strangling it near death.

You have that reversed. The ones going for the government grant money are the ones who can't get private funding. Generally because the subject matter won't yield monetary profits.

I can accept my neice being mediocre (thought I doubt she is) - she gets paid.

Making things up again, I see.

So the NIH and the CID is a bunch of malingerers who can't get grants from McDonalds.

God I love the weird anti-intellectualism of the rightwing. It's so friggin' weird.

The idea that corporate funding is the way to go certainly is telling as to your understanding of useful unbiased research. You probably think getting a grant from Exxon on global warming research is a good idea.

Hey now this is a true knownothing response. It's perfect.

Scientists and medical researchers are feckless welfare queens in teapartybizarroworld. Thanks for deviating into an honest post.

That's what they want. Their vision of America is something like The Handmaiden's Tale, with rich rightwing religious extremists living in agricultural compounds militia-style with the womanfolk milking the cows. Helluvavision

Yeah, because corporations want unbiased research.

I think you missed the point. Read the knownothing tea party responses on this thread. They want the scientists and medical researchers to leave.

Knownothingism is the goal of conservatism and science is a threat to that.
