Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threa[W:423]

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

Not helpful.

Maybe I'm just never meant to understand why chicken wing comments are made about black people and why it's supposed to be racist

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

Why do you assume that the individual issuing the complaint made that assumption in the first place? What proof to you have that race elicited that fear?

They felt threatened. How does that make sense any other way?

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

Someone was making a comment about black people at a cookout eating chicken wings and their friend was acting nervous and kind of yelling at them for the comment. I didn't know it was suppose to be racist until it was later explained and I still don't get it. What's bad about chicken wings, I thought it more of a stereotypical football fan thing...chicken wings and beer?

Still confused at that one

I don't know, do you understand what racism is, and how associating something as innately tied to skin color is racism?

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

The media will NEVER report the other side of the story.

I'm not listening to the media for the other side of the story. I'm waiting for the civil lawsuit, and to hear the details on that. Like I said, it doesn't surprise me. Localized racism is definitely prevalent, but I find they are mostly isolated cases.

well, if there any means another person might make themselves a threat to you, besides associations you draw with their skin color? If yes, then there are numerous other possibilities that would make sense

It's actually great that you don't know. And I don't want to be the person that tells you. Just e happy that you don't understand it, because although it's based in some truth, it isn't the type of thing that will make any difference in your life to understand it.

(Shhhh... PM me and I'll explain it. But don't tell anyone I did...):ssst:

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

They felt threatened. How does that make sense any other way?

Maybe they're suffering from PTSD.
Maybe certain things were said that were threatening.
Maybe certain movements were taken as threatening.

You thought I was full of rage based on comments I made in another thread, why would you come to that conclusion? Was it based on my race? Was it based on sex/gender, was it based on age? It's a hypothetical question, not meant to be answered but meant to be thought through. There could be a million different reasons as to why that individual felt uncomfortable or threatened so why pick out one in a million and assume it was race?

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

Here we go, "all Conservatives are racist". That didn't take you long...LOL!

But it's also tied to "rednecks", it get's back to the whole why is it racist for black people but not when it comes to white people?

reread what I wrote. Nothing I wrote claims the issue is in anyway exclusive.

"associating something as innately tied to skin color is racism"

Notice the absence of some limiting qualifier before "skin color"

That would be a stereotype of black people as in a "widely held but oversimplified" (basic def.) characteristic of a certain group of people . It's not the same thing as racism.

a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race

Racism - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary

No, it certainly sounds like racism. Being that he is describing "race as the primary determinate" in the uncontrollable urge to consume chicken wings.

No. It's "an idea or statement about all of the members of a group..."

Stereotype - Synonyms and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary[noun]

It's not even specific to a certain race because apparently rednecks like their wings and beer too.

Still slinging insults when you get publicly embarressed?

I remember you.

It certainly could be based on other things. It just appears to me, based on what I know now, to be based on race. Those other scenarios are possible but not very probable. If new information comes to light, I have no problem adjusting for it.

hy pick out one in a million and assume it was race?

There are not that many possibilities and this is the most likely.

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

I have been reading through other articles about this incident and have not seen anything that includes that statement from a witness. Can you tell me where you got that.

It comes from an anonymous poster on the internet who claims to be a worker at the WWC

A love for all things chicken, particularly fried chicken, is a common stereotype that many racists like to believe in about black people.

So in other words it has no credibility. I thought as much since I could not find it anywhere. Thanks

I'm not sure it's impossible for something to be a racist stereotype. Which is what you seem to be arguing. Also, I'm not sure what point you are trying to convey with the redneck comment, but why would people holding similar ideas about redknecks preclude the racial aspect of associating an uncontrollable love for chicken and black skin color?

Can you maybe expand on the logic behind that?

It's not the most likely, you're talking about a very liberal city where racism isn't expected or tolerated. What's more likely is that a large group of over 20 people got agitated and that that agitation was spread to others after waiting to be seated for 2hrs, look into sociology and group dynamics specifically intergroup conflicts. You consistently oversimplify things when it comes to race, "they're black so it's most likely racism" I'm asking you to look deeper because it's not always about race and racism and due to the serious nature of the accusation it should not be used as the automatic go to explanation of the event unless you actually have evidence to prove that it's the cause.

I wouldn't say it has no credibility, as I can understand why someone would not want to reveal their identity under such circumstances. But it's definitely questionable

why are they not probable? The guy who wrote the facebook post said his accusation was based on nothing more than the person complaining being white.

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

Who here thinks the sides would be reversed if a black business owner kicked out white customers? Or if an atheist business owner kicked out Christians?

Of course it would be reversed...the Libbos would support and defend those business owners to the death.

You know nothing about me. And your consistent need to chase me down and throw accusations at me is odd. I am anything but simple and my understanding of these situations are anything but simple. Your inability to understand says more about you than me.

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

IMO, it sounds like a colossal cluster **** on the part of the restaurant. I can't say that it was racist, but at best the restaurant staff handled *everything* in the worst way possible

For one thing, when the group called ahead and said they had a large group coming, the staff should have asked how large and then told them how long it might take to seat them. It's called "managing expectations"

If WWC can't handle such a large party, then the party should have been told. It looks like WWC can't handle such a large party without more notice. They should have said so.

However, they didn't so it was WWC's burden to provide some service to customers, particularly since they had 25 loyal customers who were willing to wait for a long period of time. What kind of idiots let 25 loyal customers get pissed off at them in one fell swoop? It's idiotic

The staff should have told the party that they were going to clear out a portion of the restaurant, but that would take a long time, and in the meantime, they would be seating smaller parties in the areas where they were not going to seat the party. This way, the party wouldn't get upset when they saw people getting seated before them, even though they arrived after they did.

The staff should have kept in contact while the party was waiting for so long, if only to show a bit of service and that they weren't ignoring the party. A small plate of something to nibble, or a round of soft drinks wouldn't be a bad idea either for such a large group of loyal customers. It's a standard business practice and a great way to get a lot of people to talk well of your business instead of raising a stink.

If there were any behavior problems on the part of the waiting customers, the staff should have resolved it immediately. Waiting until the waiting customers are getting steamed and then stating that another customer complained about them is an extremely bad idea. If other customers are complaining, then they have just as much responsibility to service that customer as they do the customers in the large party

Worst of all was the reason why they were asked to leave, which had nothing (as far as has been reported so far) to do with their being unruly; it was because one of them started recording the staff.

My response would be that I'm reluctant to give an anonymous internet posting more credibility than the claims of people who put their name to their words.

My response is if you want to blame the black people, you'll be more than eager to ponder such hypotheticals.

I prefer to stick to the facts

There are no statements from any waitresses or any other customers

Wow. You go, dude! I'm impressed.
