Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threa[W:423]

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

So what? What does that have to do with whether or not asking them to leave was influenced by the fact that the staff felt unduly threatened ?

A patron felt threatened, not the staff. But cited material seems to indicate the assumption of a threat was reasonable and based on actions of one of the individuals from the party threatening a deaf person, and general unruly and disrespectful behavior

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

I most certainly did not, I just pointed out the silliness. What subject did I change? Crossing the street?

You are an evasive one, aren't you?

You can't possibly be so dense as to not understand the analogy. Even if you are, I won't run in circles chasing you.
Carry on.

Has the restaurant had a response yet? Something tells me there might be another side to this story.

Who said they felt "threatened"? And if they did, who are you to assume it was "unduly"?

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

because part of the allegation that the restaurant's behavior was racist was they were seating white patrons before seating their party. Besides possibly just being ****ty service, something people of all racial backgrounds are forced to experience at times, it would indicate they were largely victims of circumstances they created

Okay, thank you for the civil discourse. I sincerely appreciate it. Like I said earlier, if it is in response to claims that their wait was influenced by race it makes sense. Unless of course a group of 25 white people without reservations came in and were seated. Highly unlikely.

Although isn't unruly and disrespectful a bit of a subjective thing? Why would they not first ask them to quieten down? Why leap to throwing them out? Again, sincere questions. I still don't feel like there is enough real information to know.

Another customer felt threatened and complained to the staff.

There is a question as to whether or not there was a genuine threat. Why do you leap to the conclusion that is was justified? I don't leap to the conclusion that it wasn't.

Did you not read anything linked to?

The WERE asked to cool it. According to they themselves, they were asked to leave not then, but when they started making a fuss about being asked to chill out, and one of them pulled out a video camera and started recording everything.

P K:

I did respond. But debates with a person of your mindset are a waste of time. I have no interest.

Sorry. I didn't see your reply?
Will you kindly tell me the post number?

If you have a second I'd appreciate you telling me about your assessment of my "mindset", too. I'm sure I'd be fascinated...no..really...

I didn't leap to any conclusion. You're the one who characterized it as "unduly" threatened. I never said it was or wasn't.

In all honesty I don't want to offend you any more than I'm sure I already have.

Back a bit in the thread I posted a comment by [purportedly] one of the other patrons there at the time. At least one of the members of the group was verbally abusive to an elderly disabled person (it's not a leap to see where they may have been threatening violence - that can be part of the patois). The group itself was getting louder over the incident, and probably fouler of mouth. Their table was ready, but at this point the management called the audible and asked them to leave.

I highly doubt the two hour wait, it just doesn't make sense. Not the only restaurant in the area. Why would they stay for that?

This group may not have found their actions and language abusive, though it clearly was perceived that way by other patrons. I believe this had nothing to do with race and everything to do with cliquish culture on the part of the group.

Right, there isn't enough information, but you seem to keep jumping to the conclusion that it was racism, and that they didn't do certain key things, prior to throwing them out ...

Case in point, you assume above that it simply escalated to them being thrown out, with no prior attempts to diffuse the situation. But the article makes clear they tried to diffuse the situation by placing them in a different section. But at that point, the family further escalated the situation and started recording it

It is subjective. In fact, disdain for certain behavior is one thing commonly mislabeled as racism. We don't even have sufficient knowledge of what actually happened to conclude they weren't asked to quiet down. We aren't even conclusively saying they were unruly. The only conclusion Dr. Chuckles, Ikari and I have made is that it's very naive to assume you got the whole story already and make claim racism was involved.

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

According to others, they were behaving thusly:

The group was being loud and obnoxious to both customers and staffers. They kept complaining about their long wait and were talking about how “whitey” was able to get seated, but they were not. The problem was that they had a large group and insisted on sitting next to each other. We only had one area that could accommodate their large group and the patrons in that area were not done. So yes, some “whities” were able to be seated before them, but only because they were going to a different area. We also seated non-whites in other areas too…They made this a racial issue before anything. One of the guests also insulted a deaf white girl because she didn’t respond to one of them telling her to move (she was deaf and didn’t hear them) They were also all standing in the middle of the walk way, making it difficult for customers to leave. We asked them if they could move over, but they said they can stand wherever they want, and if we wanted them out of the way then we should seat them. The customer that was offended was offended by a particular individual’s constant uses of the word “n*gger” When asked to stop, he threw out a long string of racial epithets against one of my co-workers.

So, according to this waitress, nothing in the way they were reacted to came out of the blue, and the customer explained why (s)he was offended.

If this account is correct, then there was plenty of reason to find them obnoxious and ask them to leave which wouldn't have a thing to do with racism.

Re: Wild Wing Cafe Kicks Out 25 African Americans After White Customer Felt 'Threaten

The article has no details about how the group was acting. They want to give the impression that the other customer felt threatened purely because they were black. However, I've seen multiple instances where a group would describe themselves as acting normal and I would have described them as rather rowdy. There could have also been a particular action or something said by one in the group that triggered the other customer's concern.
A rational, non-racially biased person comes to the conclusion you did. Hence, the many, many posters who disagree with you.

How many times do I have to stay I have not made up my mind on this one. I think there is a possibility that racism was involved and I don't think it makes anymore sense to dismiss those claims at this point then to assume it was present.

The thing I find a challenge on this site is that people leap to extreme positions. Conservatives tend to say immediately that it didn't happen and that their feelings are unfounded while people who lean left tend to say they see it outright. Neither is possible given what we know now. It is all speculation at this point.

How did recording it escalate the situation?

You have been making assumptions all throughout this thread, and apparently not even reading the material linked to, while talking about needing more information.

In my view, if you're going to accuse someone of something ugly, you need to have actual evidence of it, not assumptions.

You can say it as many times as you like, but it comes off as totally insincere and fake when you are pushing a completely contradictory line of reasoning out the other side of your mouth

In fact, I even cited one such incident in the very post you quoted

Except, if the following is accurate, the only chance of this being racism is on the part of the group and not the restaurant.

The problem was that they had a large group and insisted on sitting next to each other. We only had one area that could accommodate their large group and the patrons in that area were not done. I think you know that South Carolina didn't start the war of federal tyranny. lincoln did.

That's why I made sure to put quote marks around that silly, untrue statement she made.

Challenging a point of view that does not come naturally to you does not mean that you are closed to it. i.e.: You made a legitimate point about the reservations and I agreed with you based on your argument.
