If I'm not mistaken, the taxpayers don't foot the bill on buying or renting the places he stays on vacation. The use is given to the first family by the owners/friends as a gift (Camp David being the exception). Transportation to and from is probably a tax payer expense, which would be roughly identical depending on distance if he'd been staying at his own ranch, if he owned one. I agree however that the dog should have made the trip with the family. If he got accidentally left back at the White House, leave the dog at home or get someone to drive him to Massachusetts at their personal expense and not send a military helicopter to go get the dog.

Comparing yourself to the president of the united states is laughable. I know we all like to pick on the pres and complain about anything and everything but let's really consider this. Who ever is president, and I'm not limiting this to Obama, but whoever is, has given up 4-8 years of their lives, along with all the time before hand to run for president, in order to serve their country in a grueling and mentally stressing role. They give up time with family, they give up all privacy. They accept the responsibility of being the one who makes decisions in which there are no correct answers. Decisions in which if you pick a, 50% of the country will hate you, and if you pick b, 50% of the country will hate you. Decisions that could potentially kill any number of people in order to protect any number of people. And for every one piece of controversy that we hear from the news that goes on at the white house, there are probably ten others that we never hear of. For every time we hear of a secret mission to get something done, there are probably ten others we never hear about. For every terrorist attack that is foiled there are probably a few others. And the president has to listen to, and consider, and decide on all of these issues to one extent or another, be it actually making the decision, or by appointing someone who they trust to make that decision.

I think for that, they deserve to be provided with excellent protection, they deserve the ability to have a few extra's that can make there lives a bit more normal, such as vacations with family, or to have their dog travel with them etc. Quite frankly, alot of these complaints, such as "look at these vacations!" and "Look, he brought his dog with him!" make people look like petty partisan ****s.

Is this the official storm in a teacup of the day? ConMeme central must be running low on supplies.

Hope you are talking about Bo...and not the wife in that rather uncalled for manner....

And, absolutely. I get no sense he has much respect for the people's money. What has Obama done during his presidency that indicates anything in his core representative of being thrifty or frugal with our dollars? Was it his trillion in deficits each of his first four years? Was it his refusal to cut a dime leading to what is essentially his sequester?

Right, they just launch illegal pre-emptive wars that waste trillions and enrich their energy and military contractor cronies. Not defending Obama, just pointing out the glaring hypocrisy.

Why can't he just take his stupid dog on the plane with him and his family. Probably doesn't want to deal with the aggravation. The pet is probably only for show anyway. I get the feeling that Obama isn't really much of an animal lover to begin with.

Hey, the good news is that Bo wasn't stranded by the sequestration!

Yes, because they did not use public funds to get to their vacation homes, they went purely with public transport

And no secret service staff accompanied him when he went on his vacations, with additional staff etc.

This story makes it sound like the dog was airlifted like it was a taxi cab for the dog, the chopper was filled with secret service agents, staff, clothing etc. for the presidential vacation. Another underhanded dig at Obama with no real substance.

Of course it costs extra for the handling of the dog. Someone else is getting paid to do this. Nothing is free!

That's a classic example of why cats are better than dogs. The White House Cat (named George or Martha) could have ridden with them on the trip and better yet, could be left at home since cats don't freak out when you go out to hunt (that's what I tell them) and don't cause this kind of furor. Indeed, you get a vacation and your cat gets a vacation from you.

It's also why Clinton was better than Obama. Just saying
