Is boy, 14, the youngest person ever to be killed by an NYPD cop?

I am all for killing someone while it is still self defense. What bothers me is the totally John Wayne, immature, cavalier BS attitude the RWers are babbling about killing people. A damn 14 year old kid gets killed, and I agree from what I seen on CNN he had to be shot, and you tell someone who is merely trying to remind people about situatinal awareness when someone has to be shot, an ideologue. I hope you dont have a firearm.

I do have a firearm. What I don't have is some ****-a-mamie, fringe wackjob idea that all firearm owners walk around and brandish their weapons all willy-nilly and treat modern cities like some shootout at the OK Corral.

Try and join me in the 21st century, please.

I actually was talking specifically about your post. You even chanllenged me to a dual.

Solletica- why did you apparently delete the post of mine that you just responded to just a couple of minutes ago? I'm not sure if you have a reading comprehension issue, but if you will re-read my original post that you quoted earlier, you will see that it says
If the kid was wielding and shooting a gun in the streets, then I see no reason to place blame on the cop.

Note the bolded portion. I said IF the kid was wielding and shooting a gun. That most certainly implies an OPINION of mine, with a qualifier.

If the boy was wielding a gun and using it, from what I read, the police officer had no choice and he was just doing his job. Hopefully this, and other recent incidents, will force all of us to take a look at the issue of crime in these communities and we take steps that are actually going to be effective in keeping it from happening in the first place.

By all means, please elucidate.

The shooting of a 14-year-old boy Sunday by a rookie police officer has shocked New York City. The police commissioner concedes that the teen may be the youngest person ever killed by the NYPD.
Despite the tragic young age of Shaaliver Douse, Ray Kelly was quick to defend the white 26-year-old officer, who just graduated from the police academy last month.
Kelly said the teen had fired multiple rounds and was chasing someone through the streets of the Bronx about 3am Sunday.

When two officers confronted him, he refused to drop the pistol and pointed it at them, the Commissioner said at a press conference Sunday evening.

The officer fired a single round from his 9mm service pistol, striking Shaaliver in the jaw and killing him. <snip>

Textbook case of a justified shooting it appears. How long until the apologists chime in blaming the cops for shooting this "poor little boy?"

If he had been shooting and leveled the gun at the cops, the cops are certainly with right and power to defend themselves. And in this case, single shot on target; not the 57 shots, 4 innocents hit, 52 shots go wide, and the bad guy gets one that has been going on with our cops lately.

Why don't we just short cut to where you tell me what I think because I am a Progressive.

The problem is parents. Back when I was in school for example if I was punished by a teacher (spanking, etc.) and they found out I would get it twice as hard when I got home. Now-a-days, lay a finger on a student and you get lawsuits up the wazoo. Same exact thing here, keep your kid off the street at 3am with a gun and shooting at people then you don't have to worry about him getting shot. If the parents (or anybody) try to blame this officer that is totally out of line.
Not just the teachers, but the parents. I'm tired of the media refusing to point out the failure of the parents in these matters.

You watch too much TV in which the good guy always hits his target on the first shot.

No, I watch too much news where cops unload 50 - 100 rounds and barely touch the bad guy.

Kudos to the larger African American dude, in the video, that shielded the smaller lady and ushered her out of harm's way.

If what is written is all true, then the cop did the right thing. The fault lies with the 14 year old, not the cop.

Can I think its tragic the kid was killed but still see it as a justified shooting?

And if you are truly enlightened you see a kid with a gun.

One thing for sure, we won't see this kid with a gun again. Problem solved!

Would the story be more palatable to you if the cop had been shot and killed instead?
