No its not against the law to say a prayer while getting paid.

Many people on salary bring work home and aren't paid - is that against the law?

That situation happened in a county in VA. For years county meetings were opened with a prayer. Even had a designated prayer giver. When there were complaints concerning the singular nature of the prayer, a roster was created with those interested rotating the duty. All went well until some of those until some of those undesirables, notably a Wiccan, applied to be on the roster. Suddenly sitting through someone elses prayer did not seem such a good idea.

I suppose that's up to the collective majority of a particular religion which is how these prayers generally work.

I don't want to be exposed to homosexuality therefore I don't go to gay communities.....

If someone doesn't want to be exposed to something then they shouldn't go where that behavior or idea is occurring - or at least wait until the "offensive action" is over.

Who said people are forced to participate? In fact, the only ones required to be present are the actual council members. And the complainers that brought this to the court were not a council member.

Thus my obligatory condemnation of White supremacy will now be in every post, lest I be accused of supporting it because I didn't mention it specifically every time I post.

This is the problem with people like you, you want everyone else to be inconvenienced because of your prayers. We do not need it, nor to be bothered wasting time watching you do it because you are bothered because we have more free time than you.
Who is requiring you to be there?
So you have been forced or required to attend Rowan County, North Carolina county council meetings I presume?

Utter nonsense. Any time you have an issue before the board, be it a major zoning case or a request for an additional trash pickup day, you are required to be at least represented. Those opposing also have a right to be heard. If you want to make your case, you will be there.

On the other hand, no one is telling you not to pray, just not to make the prayer official.

WTF do you care.... your in Europe.

Besides, a council praying together before a meeting is FAR from "turning the USA into a theocracy"

Well then I suppose an individual is going to have to weigh what issue is more important to them. Being in the presence of prayer or arguing their boggle with the town board.

I've never heard of an "official prayer." I don't think prayers can be "official."
