Wow, that's a stretch, if you are applying this standard to everyone who engages in sexting. If you choose to apply it to Mr. Weiner in this situation that's different, since you are making a valid moral values judgment about someone seeking your vote for public office.

That said, I have met Mr. Weiner several times, having lived in his district in NYC (the borough of Queens). Were I still living there I would not vote for him because I found him to be a man who tried to be all things to all people, thus actually representing no one other than whatever his own personal agenda was.

As far as sexting, I feel the same about that as I did about Clinton's fooling around...it has nothing to do with a job in government (unless your job is to handle sexual harrassment issues).

Consider me the odd duck, but I believed before and after Clinton and I believe now that elected officials must be vetted before they can be read into information classified secret and above - everyone else handling it is. Now I don't know if or how much secret and above information the mayor of New York is privy to, but my guess there is a need to know because it is New York City.

Is Wiener the kind of guy who puts himself out there to be blackmailed? He's proving he is.

Sounds like he's actually qualified to represent quite a few people. I bet if most peoples lives and personal secrets came out into the open, they'd show the same characteristics.

How many of those people continue walking around with their dicks hanging out of the pants after getting busted for it before and at the same time have the cheek to run for public office?
 
The first time he got caught, he lied repeatedly until the proof was stacked as high as, well, as his wiener. Then he resigned, apologized, asked forgiveness from the public and his humiliated pregnant wife, vowed to get help for his problem, went into rehab, got out of rehab, then started the cycle all over again with a new round of sexting-texting-phone sex with at least one other woman.

Once again, he is sorry, explains that he's "deeply flawed" but still wants to be mayor of NYC. If the voters elect this prick-of-the-month, they might as well bend over en masse and take his wiener up their ... well, you get the gist. :)

If we'd simply stop judging peoples ability to perform their duties by what they do in their private lives, blackmail wouldn't have much effect. Too bad that gossiping and being judgmental are common human characteristics.

In that sense you are correct, human foibles become hidden weaknesses that make public officials susceptible to blackmail.

Is sexting to other adults illegal? I don't see how it affects his ability to do that. As long as he's not actively engaged in illegal activities, then he can hang his dick wherever he wants and take as many pictures of it as he'd like to and send it to whatever consenting adults he wants to.

What he has done is extremely unethical not to mention he is married. He is also a liar to the tenth power.An unethical liar like weiner should qualify for a cabinet position in the Obama administration. Most of all Weiner is a perverted freaking laughing stock and his wife is an idiot for not kicking his ass to the curb.

I agree with that last, and it's why I lost all respect for Hillary Clinton. Had nothing to do with politics for me.

Exactly. Personally, I don't care. Not living in NYC, I don't have a dog in the fight. Beyond that I don't really care what people do with other consenting adults. However, if you are going to run for public office and lie to me and everyone else about it, treat the citizens like suckers, dummies and fools, then don't expect me to want you to represent my interests as an elected official because I already know what you think about yourself and what you think about the people you expect to support you.

A 48 year old man sending pictures of his dick to a 22 year old woman AFTER he has already resigned from Congress for doing much the same thing is a sick puppy. I don't have much respect for his wife either.

I will agree it's immoral and unethical because he is married. But that is between him and his wife. It's not as though it's a positive reinforcement for him. But everyone makes it sound like he raped dead babies. He's a narcissist, big deal. I watch Tiger play golf because I like how he plays. I don't care about Tiger off the course. I don't look to anybody to be my moral guide, especially as an adult.
