Authorities found a pellet gun in the man's car parked near the house and arrested the man on Sunday for having an open container of alcohol, Kerry spokesman Glen Johnson said in a statement.

Kerry was not at home at the time. State Department security officers called police after the man was spotted taking a picture of a window in Kerry's house, Johnson said.....snip~

It also appears the guy that was arrested was another Eastern European Type if not Russian.....from Boston too. Hope someone in Obama's Admin is still attempting to cover all bases.

Boston News is calling him an armed man. Because he had a pellet gun in his car.

A man arrested Sunday taking photos outside Secretary of State John Kerry’s Beacon Hill home will be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court today on alcohol related charges.

Vladimir Romanov, 29, of West Roxbury, was apprehended Sunday afternoon for possession of an open alcohol container, authorities said. Boston police found a pellet gun in his vehicle.

The investigation into Romanov is continuing.

But aint it kinda cool that Kerry has those Government house-sitters at like 50k a year to watch over things when he isn't around.

Not like he couldn't afford better security, huh?

You understand that he's the Secretary of State, right? That someone doing surveillance, or worse, an attack, on SecState could have serious repercussions for the country?

Uhm.....yeah, why do you think I said that for Team Obama, lets hope he is at least covering all the basics. Since he could be Russian. As well as considering what took place in Boston. One would have to think. Even the most basic of common sense should apply.

Although there is no reason for the media to embellish upon being an armed man when the Pellet gun was found in his car. No sense in loosely exaggerating things. As I doubt a man with a pellet gun is going to get past Kerry's Security who would be firing real bullets.

Yea but it was a scary looking black pellet gun with a pistol grip with a high capacity pellet magazine, clippy longing thingy.

Police were called because he took a picture? Didn't know that was illegal...

If you start taking pictures of federal buildings/high profile officials houses/army instillation's etc it's not illegal but you can expect someone to stop you and to start asking questions.

this kinda reminds me of a story...

Back about 83 or early 84 I was stationed at El Toro. I was out jogging around the perimeter and at one area really close to the fence. A guy had gotten out of his car on the outside of the fence and was taking pics of the base. As I got closer I realized it was a Japanese guy and thought he must be a tourist, always taking pictures...If I remember correctly we were pretty far from the F18's but suddenly he was literally swarmed by MP's, thrown up on his car, they were taking his camera as I was going on past. I actually kinda felt sorry for the guy. Bet he never did that again. Later the MPs told me they just took his film and let him go.

People have been arrested for doing less.

That happened to an old guy I know in Italy, but he was a tourist and apparently he took a picture of the wrong person as they were leaving a government building. He was thrown in jail and it was going to take like a day to get someone there who spoke English from the embassy so they did a leap frog language thing between 3 or 4 languages. They released him and kept his film. Once back in the US he started making a big deal about it because that role of film had several days worth of shots on it. The Italian government eventually sent the negatives to him with the shots from the government building blacked out. Says he still has no idea who was in the shot that created such a stir.

I honestly don't see a problem with this. Nor would I have a problem if it someone got arrested taking pictures of Boehner's home.

Seriously?

Did we travel through a time/space warp and land in the Soviet Union, circa 1956?

I was in D.C. with my family over the 4th of July weekend. Surprisingly the Secret Service didn't interrogate my 5-year-old for taking pictures of the White House and the State Department with his Leap Pad.

If they had, or if they had questioned my wife about taking pictures of the same with a real camera, the only rational respose would have been, "Go **** yourself, officer".

If what I'm doing does not amount to a reasonable suspicion that I am commiting a crime, have just commited a crime, or am about to commit a crime, and unless a law enforcement officer can clearly articulate how my behavior amounts to the reasonable suspicion that I'm engaging in REAL illegal behavior, no law enforecement officer, federal, state, or municipal, has any business at all approaching me.

Large difference taking pictures in front of the White House with your family and taking pictures from a car of the secretary of state's house. I'm hoping you can see how one would be considered normal behavior and the other suspicious.

I don't understand the hullabaloo. I mean its not as though we have a history in this country of murdering politicians with whom we disagree. :lamo

Just don't go to Texas or the GOP will take your wife's tampons.

Which is also a shame.

Agree, but the title of the article is disingenuous. The guy was arrested for the open container. The guy was a suspicious character which prompted calling the police, nothing else. This is much to do about nothing. Yahoo might as well of titled the article: "Man arrested outside U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry's home in Boston after voting for republicans for 20 straight years"

I am not getting the problem here. Dumbass had an open container of alcohol in his car and the cop saw it and arrested him. Yes, pretty much if you are stopped on the road taking pictures of a house and a cop sees you they will probably take a glance. When they see your open alcohol container you are then going to get arrested. Sometime around there they may find your pellet gun and depending on state law having one of those loaded in a vehicle is like having a firearm loaded in your vehicle. In some states things like that are suppoased to be stored unloaded and as you would with a firearm when you have them in a car. It is just even more stupid that the guy is doing this outside of a big government official's house where there is likely to be police officers.

The guy is drinking and driving and should be arrested for such things.

Were you driving around with an open container of alcohol? he wasn't arrested for taking pictures, he was arrested for drinking and driving. Had the dumbass just been taking pictures there would have been no arrest. Are there cops outside of the white house? I am pretty sure there were a few and if you were beating the crap out of your child I would hope they would come over and stop you because you were breaking the law, and that the newspaper would just report it as a case of child abuse rather than pretending the cops were only there to protect Obama from you taking pictures of the white house. Of course, my hopes would be wrong because you would be an assassin who was just caught because he was beating his kids because the news in the US is a bunch of commentating looky loos who want to tell us all what actually happened in their perverted little rotten minds. Why the hell can't they just say some idiot was busted outside of john kerry's house for an open container and he had a camera and a pellet gun in his car. This way we can put the pieces together and people like you are not confused.

Just another right wing blogoshpere nut outrage.

Really Mak? How so coming from Reuter's and a Boston Newspaper. Where did this Right wing Blogosphere step in from.....straight out of Boston?

He wasn't arrested though for taking pictures. He was arrested for the pellet gun and open alcohol container.

The police were called because the man was taking pictures of the house (since he is a high profile politician), however, he was arrested for other things.

Heya TR. :2wave: Well the one Problem I seen was the Boston news making a big deal about this guy was armed.....with a Pellet gun. That it seemed they wanted to embellish on that moreso. Despite Kerry not even being around.

As truthfully even some Kids hanging out on the corner would be considered suspicious by Secret Service. Same deal if they saw some guy going thru the garbage looking for cans and bottles.

You understand that he's the Secretary of State, right? That someone doing surveillance, or worse, an attack, on SecState could have serious repercussions for the country?

So? Kerry is a public figure and as such there is an expectation of not only him being photographed but also of his home, family and even friends being photographed. Him being the Sec. of State is irrelevent as far as being photographed goes.

Something isn't right here. Who, in their right mind would want a picture of Kerry or his house?
