Man Arrested After Photographing John Kerry's House......

People have been arrested for doing less.

The article the OP posted was exaggerated. He wasn't arrested for taking photographs or even having a pellet gun in his trunk. He was arrested for having an open container of alcohol. All that other crap was just sensationalism, irrelevent for what actually happened.

the title of the article is an outright lie, I have not looked but I bet it is all over the right wing blogoshpere. Same stuff all the time.
Really Mak? How so coming from Reuter's and a Boston Newspaper. Where did this Right wing Blogosphere step in from.....straight out of Boston?

Something isn't right here. Who, in their right mind would want a picture of Kerry or his house?

Who in thier right mind wants photographs of Obama? Oh right, anyone that wants pictures of what amounts to celebrities. People want even the most hated celebrities pictures.

People are strange creatures at times.

Here is the Update Mak.....I also doubt the Boston Globe is a Right Wing Blogosphere. Might want to look that up first next time. I know how it is easy to cross those Sources out there Nowadays. :2razz: Btw here is pic too. ;)

A West Roxbury man was arraigned Monday at Boston Municipal Court on charges stemming from his arrest outside of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry’s Beacon Hill home yesterday afternoon, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Vladimir Romanov, 29, of West Roxbury, was released on his own recognizance on a charge of public drinking outside of Kerry’s 19 Louisburg Square house, the DA said. However, at the request of Assistant District Attorney Neil Flynn, Judge Debra Shopteese revoked Romanov’s bail on an open assault with a dangerous weapon charge out of Quincy District Court and ordered him held on a warrant sought by probation officers for allegedly violating the terms of his probation on a drunken driving case, the DA said.

Officers searched the vehicle and saw a pellet gun clearly visible, along with three cell phones, a TomTom Navigation system, a black canvas bag containing several CO2 cartridges and an open container of alcohol, police said. All of the items were seized as evidence, police said.

Romanov’s next court date is Sept. 25, the DA said.

You understand that he's the Secretary of State, right? That someone doing surveillance, or worse, an attack, on SecState could have serious repercussions for the country?
Kind of like Benghazi, only without the attack and minus the deaths.

He wasn't arrested though for taking pictures. He was arrested for the pellet gun and open alcohol container.

The police were called because the man was taking pictures of the house (since he is a high profile politician), however, he was arrested for other things.

Either way. The guy doesn't sound terribly bright.

Were you driving around with an open container of alcohol? he wasn't arrested for taking pictures, he was arrested for drinking and driving. Had the dumbass just been taking pictures there would have been no arrest.

I know he wasn't arrested for taking pictures.

He was investigated for taking pictures.

The investigation led to the discovery of the open container and his subsequent arrest.

My problem with this whole thing is that standing on public property taking pictures (especially of a public figure's home) does not constitute a reasonable suspicion that someone was commiting (or was planning to commit) a crime.

There never should have been an investigation into this guy in the first place based on the information in the articles posted in this thread.

If the DSS and the police had simply taken note of the guy and observed him (which I don't think is unreasonable at all), and if that observation led to them wittnessing him getting into his car and sucking on an open container of what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage, then fine, by all means detain the guy and investigate him on the reasonable suspicion that he's actually breaking the law.

I have no problem with that.

But it seems like these days the simple fact that someone was curious about a public figure is ample grounds for suspecting him of some crime worthy of detention and investigation.

But until they change the laws of this country to actually allow for that kind of thought policing it simply isn't the way America is supposed to work.

This way we can put the pieces together and people like you are not confused.

I'm confused because I know the law, know my rights, and expect the government to respect those rights?

Mmmmmkay...

Authorities found a pellet gun in the man's car parked near the house and arrested the man on Sunday for having an open container of alcohol, Kerry spokesman Glen Johnson said in a statement.

That probably has a lot to do with it. I'm willing to bet that's actually what he was arrested for, and will be charged with. It's really not a good idea to draw attention to yourself by taking pictures of state officials houses when you're riding dirty.

Still the call came in about a suspicious person first. Which took the cops walking up to him to discover the open beer can. Sure arrested for whatever violation then.

Like others said.....public figure someone taking pics. Usually no big deal. Although the way things are going in this country. Most Democrats are ready to jump out of their skin should one say BOO!

You seem not to understand what investigation means in this case. In this case the cop sees some guy parked in his car, probably not parked in a place you should park, came over to his window and looked inside while asking him what he was doing. They tend to do that thing called using their eyes. You make it sound like the cop was doing some actual investigative techniques aside from looking in the car, which they are completely allowed to do. They can look in the open space in your car at any time. It is called plain sight and they do not need a warrant or reason to do it. They do not even need to detain you for any reason to look inside. The only reason they need to pull you over when you are moving to look inside is because it is hard to see inside of a moving vehicle. This guy was parked and looking inside was easy and quite legal. This is just FYI so next time you have something illegal like an open container in your car you do not start thinking you are safe because the cops cannot look into your car without cause.
There never should have been an investigation into this guy in the first place based on the information in the articles posted in this thread.

Wrong, cops can look into the open spaces of your car out of curiosity. The cockpit of your car which is exposed to the world is not considered a private area. It is called plain sight and they need no cause or reason to look into it to see illegal items. Since this guy was already pulled over and taking pictures there was nothing at all stoping the cop from seeing the open container in plain sight.

What the hell do you think they did? I might be overstating the situation. The cop might have approached his car because he saw him take a drink of clearly labelled alcohol while in his car.

You are confused because you seem to be taking this story to mean something it doesn't. The stories clearly try to paint the picture this guy was arrested for pictures. He was arrested for having an open container of alcohol in the cockpit of his car in plain sight. No one arrested him for taking pictures. He4 was not charged with taking pictures. There was no investigation as you seem to be implying aside from the cop seeing the open container in plain sight which is completely legal. just FYI a cop could be bored as hell and just wander over to you while parked and look in your window for the fun of it and bust you for an open container.

So this "unfair investigation" led to the arrest of a man with all kinds of weird crap in his car?

Taking a picture of a public figure in public is one thing, but going to the guy's personal residence is another thing. Upper class neighborhoods don't really take kindly to that kind of stuff. If some guy they've never seen before is going around taking pictures of houses, especially vacant houses, it's going to get reported and the police are going to check it out. This guy ****ed up by doing something stupid. If you're going to take pictures of a public official's house, at least make sure you don't have anything incriminating in the car.
