Well, there was supposedly a Libertarian running. But he never campaigned and didn't even have a website to learn about him. Figured if he didn't care enough to make a minimal effort to inform us about himself, he wouldn't do anything if elected.

It's not about not caring; it's about not having enough money. I was a campaign manager for a Libertarian a few years ago, and we barely had enough money for print ads. Couldn't afford radio or TV spots, and we didn't have many signs either. Having a web presence means finding a webmaster, and this costs money too.

I guess that's true.
Still, the guy was running against Louie Gohmert, fer crissakes.
A billboard with the candidate's name and an "I"M NOT INSANE" banner would have gotten attention and money.

Choke off folks that are ripping off the system and everyone wins.

The problem with this line is that "the system" (by which it is more proper to say 'society,' or perhaps better, 'the economy of a society') is supposed to take care of everyone, or nearly everyone. Read Thomas Hobbes. Prior to the adoption of a social contract, everyone is on their own, and it's perfectly OK for one person to "rip off" another, if they can. We enter into "a system" for the privilege of, among other things, getting a reasonable assurance that we won't be "ripped off." If everyone, or nearly everyone, is benefiting from "the system" as they are supposed to be, then that assurance should be secure.

We have an economy to ensure that everyone, or almost everyone, does better than they probably would on their own in a state of survival in nature. Start screwing with that at your peril.

Choke off folks that are ripping off the system and everyone wins.

What percentage of people on food stamps do you think are "ripping off the system" and what percentage do you think legitimately need some help?

I don't know, but there's no way that 100% of the people collecting welfare absolutely need it. Even you're smart enough to know that.

Some small business owners are eligible for unemployment benefits due to loopholes in the legislation, I know that much.

$28 a week is over a $1000 a year. This should be changed to 40 lbs of rice, 40 lbs of beans, and classes on gardening.

What are farmers going to do at gardening classes?

Teach them?

For some reason, a lot of farmers were against removing SNAP from the farm bill
532 farm organizations, including the American Farm Bureau Federation, the nation’s largest farm lobby, called on lawmakers not to split the farm bill into two pieces of legislation. In a letter on Thursday, Bob Stallman, president of the Farm Bureau, called the split disappointing. But after the vote, Mr. Stallman said the group would move ahead with getting a new five-year farm bill.

“While we were hopeful the farm bill would not be split, nor permanent law repealed, we will now focus our efforts on working with lawmakers to deliver a farm bill to the president’s desk for his signature by September,” he said.

While Goofus Gohmert mouths off, loudly, when some of his colleagues attempt to follow procedure in voicing their objections - in back rooms, subsidies were increased for cotton, peanut and rice farmers. The cotton subsidy is a sore point with other nations as it violates various trade agreements which the US has signed.

Nobody ever said it was 100%. That's just absurd. Nothing is 100% abuse free.

How much government interference and additional spending are you willing to accept to make that number become 100%?
