John Boehner: No House vote on Senate immigration bill

Good. There is no need to push a useless bill on a manufactured deadline in order to put SOMETHING, ANYTHING in the public view besides the ineptitutde of the current administration. The bill is crap. There is no point in passing any kind of immigration "reform" that does not first secure the border. Democrats in this case are just putting on a show for political points, The house is correct in not playing the game.

Again, please point to any action that is not supported by congressional rules.

I think Obamacare was a joke. It was passed in the dead of night without any opposition party input. However, there was nothing illegal, or, against legal process about it.

That's the way it goes.

So, do your complaints only work one way?

How many reps missed the vote because it was in the middle of the night? Do you know what the final tally was? Funny how folks talk about how it was sneaked thru when for five years now it's probably what we've been talking about most ... funny world we live in ...

Anyway, we've taken care of all of our problems, so it's time for the GOP to take another repeal vote ...

Then the Senate will just do the same thing. Someone needs to be the bigger man. Bring it up for a vote and fail it.

there is always the option of filing a discharge petition in order to force a vote on the immigration bill.

That would be fine too. Bohner is not god, and this authoritarian running of the house is what got him in trouble with the GOP recently. They are looking for an excuse to overthrow him, so he needs to quit acting like a King and start respecting the minority and the majority. The job of the House is not to consider whatever the majority wants but to consider bills brought up by the Senate and anyone else who brings something serious forth. I dont like the Senate bill, but they passed it, so it should be voted on.

be careful though; a discharge petittion requires only a simple majority to pass. so if 17 republicans break ranks and vote yes on the senate immigration bill and if all 201 democrats vote yes for it, it would pass the house with a simple majority of 218.

How many? Gee, I don't know. It was Christmas Eve and all.

Besides, had you bothered to notice, I haven't suggested there was anything procedurally wrong with the process. It's slathered with dog crap, and those who joined into the unilateral vote deserve the well earned wrath from the 10's of millions of people who are not pleased with their action, but it is the law of the land, no matter how ugly the plan has proved to be.

in case you haven't noticed Ocean, it's not news when politics is dirty, sneaky, shady, etc. ... it's just that when Obama became President, all of a sudden all sorts of people from the right started noticing how dirty politics is for the first time ...

as far as ACA is concerned, as flawed as it is, I predict that it will ultimately be a success for the most part, despite GOP attempts to sabotage it (and it may even cost them at the polls) ... we'll see ...

I'm fairly certain "people from the right" were well aware of how dirty politics were long before President Obama took office.

What I'm guessing they probably weren't aware of was the outright bigotry that would be launched by the left when they were accused of being racists for mearly exercising their constitutional right to voice concerns about pending agendas and other government objectives. It is reasonable to expect that force feeding dramatic legislation like Obamacare would lead to loud objection. It is inexcusable those objections would be met with claims of racist origin. That continues to be shameful.

As to Obamacare itself, I have no doubt the hope of the left is to manipulate and tweek, using the stong arm of the IRS, and other such agencies, to try and push Obamacare into a single payer system. The cows may have left the barn for good. Amazing that so many are anxious to join in the folly other countries have been suffering with.

why do you refer to legislation that was voted on as force feeding? and, please, stop the victim crap ... if someone says or does something bigoted, then don't be surprised if someone calls her/him on it ... not all opposition to Obama is racial ... in fact, most of it is not I suspect, but too much of it has been, and even a little is too much and should be condemned ...

Why the force feed reference? You really need to ask that?

As to the racist stuff, it is what it is. Let's not forget the revelations from the Journolist scandal. The left has extremely poor ground to stand on. It would have been better to debate the ideas and concerns than set out to redefine low.

Then the Senate will just do the same thing. Someone needs to be the bigger man. Bring it up for a vote and fail it.

The senate does it on a regular basis. For a while there the Dems were "leading" with impunity, Obama was doing he wanted by executive order and Reid was refusing to introduce anything they didn't want. The "bigger man" game in Congress is a lost cause. It wouldn't matter how far Reps went trying to be cooperative, the Dems are still going to play childish gotcha games. They have proven it over and over. Refusing to discuss a BS immigration bill with a poor outcome on a manufactured deadline is the best thing the house can do. You can call them "do nothing" all you want, it's better than doing the wrong thing for false reasons.

If that the will of the house, then so be it. I dont beleive in tyranny by the minority or the majority.

I dont think it is. However, one side blocking the other side only ensures they will do it back. Nothing will ever get done because nothing ever gets done. Instead, the House should bring the bill up for a vote, let people amend it, and then vote on the bill. The will of the people is expressed through the congress, everyone in congress, not just the majority.

I think what we are seeing is a reflection of the the will of the people. The bill as it stands is nothing but political grandstanding for the purpose of division and power. Any immigration bill that does not secure the border is not an immigration bill at all but a ploy for votes. Frankly I would have been very disappointed if the house fell for this crap again.

and what would secure the border? giant concrete fortresses like this one?

An immigration bill that beefs up the bejeesus out of border security, gives the money for it up front, and provides for a long, tough, but real pathway to citizenship, and it was passed by a bipartisan supermajority; BUT, that's not good enough???

No it doesn't. No matter what it says, border security will remain unchanged because the idiot liberals in power won't allow it to be funded, any more than they have the last couple of times border security has been mandated. Maybe we don't want to reward criminal aliens within our borders, did you ever think of that? Back in the 80s, we gave amnesty and said never again. Now we're doing ti again for 3x as many criminal illegal aliens?

Screw that.

On the topic of immigration reform I don't believe it's needed. I think all that needs to be done is take a close look at current laws and tweak them to bring them up to date.

It would help if we'd just ENFORCE THEM!

and how much would that cost i wonder. a couple billion dollars?

and what kind of country would we become if we put mines along our border?

We could hire illegal immigrants to keep the cost down.

The kind of country that doesn't have an illegal immigration problem.

Sure it is. When King Reid allows it....
