The sad thing is, I might know more about US presidential elections that a fair few people in the US. I have been watching the election itself live on TV since Clinton defeated Bush senior. Taking several days off from work to watch the election. I follow candidate debates, follow the conventions, etc. etc. etc.

To become president you must never been "too.....", John Kerry was "too liberal and wishy washy" for the majority of the US. Michael Dukakis was "too liberal and too incompetent" to become president, Mitt Romney was "too fake, too much of a stiff prototype politician and too much of a person without real convictions".

Let's be honest, the chance for a good candidate to come out of the republican primary system (and with good, I mean a candidate that has a better than 50% chance of winning the election) is zero to very little. To become candidate for the republican party you have to be the most conservative candidate on the planet (or say that you are) and even if someone who isn't a true conservative, like Mitt R. will have to say so many things contrary to his previous positions to get votes in the primaries, that he will have to etch-a-sketch himself completely to absolute zero. He will be confronted with things he said that are so out of main-stream America during the campaign (care of his own primary battle remarks) that he will have a nightmare of a time trying to convince people that he is the middle of the road man that US voters usually go for.

No he is very anti-drug, except when drugs suit his purpose. In his interview with Cream Magazine, Nugent admitted to doing meth for a week, in addition to crapping his pants, to get out of the draft. As far as I know, that's the only time he ever did hard drugs, although he smoked a lot of weed in his earlier days.

Ted has only done drugs once in his life. It is just that his first time has lasted for decades.

You would never have enlisted, but you could easily gone through ROTC or even The Point as your family had connections. No slag for a guy to do a few years in service to country as an officer. You combine college with military training, pretty slick.

Oh as an aside... Marine Hathcock won major competitions to include Camp Perry and Wimbledon Cup and wound up an MP in Vietnam. So no telling where a bright, gifted hard charger such as yourself would have ended up.

Oh and when it comes to 'dangerous' stateside flying and Guard units. Many Guard units were exempt from call-up and used by those who could pull strings as a good safe place to sit the war out that didn't require you to learn french.
USAMU doesn't take people as officers. lots of shooters I know with degrees-Joe Dixon, Terry Wentzel DeWitt (fourth at Atlanta, Ladies Double Trap) went in as enlisted.

One of them served in the military, the other used his daddy's connections to get into the National Guard and sent to that hotbed of combat, Texas.

At least be honest instead of simply parroting the GOP line.

Just think of all the great Democratic wet dream combos:

    Nugent / Palin
    Nugent / Trump
    Nugent / Cruz
    Nugent / Cain
    Cain / Palin
    Palin / Bachman
    Palin / Trump....

Like Mr. Potatohead, you too can build your own GOP losing ticket. Let's see which combo creates the biggest laugh.... Of course, none of these are realistic options; but, then again, the Cons have no realistic chance to win the White House in 2016, so any of these are as good as it gets.
