Obama’s Guantánamo push hits wall of resistance in Congress

When will you address the problem that some prisoners are not welcome in their country of origin? Your statement was false and therefore not a viable solution to anything. We must deal with reality and not your misconceptions and false assumptions.

I think i just addressed that, like a couple of posts ago.

We can force other countries to accept their citizens? Oh, I know... if we gave them flowers, cooked dinner and prepared a bath then they'd be more agreeable. That must be it.

Damn the US for making them reject their citizens!

that's the home country's problem
we stick them on a plane bound for that destination
the recipient country gets to decide how to handle them once they arrive

And if their country has every intention of torturing them to death, you figure that's a solution to Gitmo? Way to set things right.

that is the home country's problem to deal with

in the meantime, gitmo is closed. we will have dealt with our problem

Sending people to be tortured to death isn't solving any problem.

Are you saying we cant kick foreigners out of our own country? :doh

Not when it means that they will be tortured to death. Similar to how the EU doesn't like to extradite when the death penalty is a possibility.

So wait... Countries are threatening to torture them to death therefore saying "we dont want them"

Not "therefore". Some of the countries of origin have every intention of torturing them to death. Some countries refuse to accept them. There are issues that must be considered and solved before Gitmo can be closed. Despite your false assumptions and BS solution, these things must be dealt with.

So countries are saying "oh if you give them to us then we are going to torture them!"?

Yes. Other countries refuse to accept them. These are real issues and they exist despite your false assumptions and nonsense solution of "ship 'em back!"

Sorry, but the world is more complicated than you expected.

Really? I mean i understand that some countries justice systems are really ****ed up but from what i understand this is not a reason given at all..

Some will be tortured to death. Some are refused by their countries. These things must be addressed and solutions found before we can close Gitmo.

no way
just as we deport illegal immigrants who are not here legally
we should deport thise who have been found not guilty
it is the recipient country's problem to deal with their own citizens thereafter

If closing Gitmo brings greater injustice to an inmate, what have we solved?

we return people back to their country of origin
after that it is between the country and their citizen

I thought the objective was justice, not scapegoating.

we have ended the injustice we have inflicted

we cannot direct the activities of other sovereign nations

I thought the objective was justice, not scapegoating.

and we will have been just in turning out the not guilty parties who stood trial; we will have dispensed our justice

then it is time to return them to their homeland to be dealt with as their own nation would provide

Then how can we force them to take their citizens.

we don't care what they do with them after their citizen has left our nation's shores

that is between the citizen of the country and the country of origin

then it is time to return them to their homeland to be dealt with as their own nation would provide

If that means them being tortured to death, it is unacceptable.
