Paula Deen Fired[W:223]

Re: Paula Deen Fired

Lol. I made a bet with a white co-worker who i work with to watch how many conservatives come to Paula Dean defense as this thread continues. I made me a cool 20 bucks... You guys never disappoint :D.

I actually like Paula Dean (at least her food :2razz:), but she is a recognize celebrity who represents a network. What do you think would happen.

Let place it in a environment where a black celebrity was fired. Remember Isaiah Washington when he starred in Greys Anatomy? He was one of the biggest stars on that show and a damn good actor. When he called his co-star a faggot, he lost his job on the show and basically haven't had a good role in years. But that is the consequences when you do stupid things.

I don't blame Food Network. I blame the over the top politically correct culture that demands that people be terminated for things not work related and didn't cause anyone harm. I hope to see her back on TV soon.

Like the teacher fired for getting pregnant?

I'm not defending her, if she violated the terms of her contract then she should face the Consequences.

I think youv'e misunderstood us.

We believe people should take responsibillity for their actions and aren't under a corrupt influence that would allow us to ignore the vast double standards that lead to people like you making ignorant assumptions.

Apply the standards evenly, because no matter what color your skin is that word has racist connotations.

I didn't say you as an individual was duplicitous.

I also said I would forgive Dean.

The threads speak for themselves. There was joy over the firing of the teacher and outrage over Dean.

Sorry, I misread your post.

I don't like double standards either. I wasn't following the story about the fired teacher but I do recall a while back an unmarried teacher was dismissed from her job for being preggers. How on earth can they look at themselves in the mirror and fire an expectant mom who needs the income and health insurance? If its that big of a problem, reassign her to an office job. Where is the love?

No love only the desire to control.

When you take a job like that, catholic school, you know they frown on un wed mothers, abortions, gay marriage. You know this up front.
No one should be surprised that they are fired for breaking a code of conduct that has everything to do with thier job.

Re: Paula Deen Fired

I am not addressing any particular poster, but a duplicitous attitude of many.

No, you very clearly addressed a specific poster.

Just look through the threads. You will see right wingers gleefully cheer the homo got fired or the pregnant woman got fired. Then in this thread they have the opposite opinion.

Well, I suggest two things if you don't want to come off as a dumb-ass 1) address those people directly 2) realize it doesn't speak to the logic of their position. As of right now, you seem to be doing neither. And worst of all, holding random people accountable for such

That is duplicitous.

Who the **** cares?

So the right is happy when women and gays lose their job, but so upset about Dean.

you know those idiots constantly howling about the left, and what the left does? You know how most normal people read those posts and think the person is an asshole and dumb-ass?

there's a lesson for you there

Re: Paula Deen Fired

No love only the desire to control.

I get the fact they want the teachers to be examples to the kids they teach. I'm just saying there should be a provision whereby a REPENTANT, expectant mom isn't kicked out to fend for herself at one of the most vulnerable times in her life. Nobody on earth today is perfect. What if she got pregnant due to no fault of her own? A lot of ladies are so traumatized they never share the full story. The Catholic Church is a big organization and I'm sure they could find something else away from impressionable younger girls for her to do for a few years. I can only assume they think they're doing the right thing but I don't get it.

No one should be surprised when a tv personality is fired for using racist language.

lol, what a hilarious ****ing lie. You have been quoting his posts as you make this argument, attributing such positions to him. But now, once your card got pulled, you were never referencing him?

LOL~!!!

I quote his posts because they hit the points I want to make. I didnt say you the poster. I was using generic language.

The instances are very similar.

Essentially the only thing she admitted to was using it some time long ago. Like I said, it's hard to feel sympathy for her, but it's hard to compare this to something that occurred in a current context, or not see it as a bit reactive

I already address why they were not, but you simply ignored those posts. Also, it was clear your posts were directed towards him. You can lie aboiut it now, and backtrack. but ...

Re: Paula Deen Fired

LOLZ! And you call yourself a 'progressive,' but actively argue to use racial slurs. Funny!

I do not argue to use racial slurs. I simply point out that we should all have the same opportunity to use language as we see fit.

You, on the other hand, argue that black people alone should be able to use the word "nigga" because you are one.

Re: Paula Deen Fired

Paula Deen has lost more than her Food Network contract. She has been fired by Springfield Ham Company, and no longer will represent any of their products. Also, QVC is "watching the situation closely" in regard to whether they will continue to offer Deen's line of cookware on their network.

Personally, I think that the narcissistic bubble she created for herself where she believed herself so beloved that she could utter racial slurs, sexually harass and generally market herself as a grandmotherly sexpot looking for a stud to cougar has finally burst. A dose of humility was in order, and she just got hers.

Besides admitting to using the term in the past, there doesn't seem anything definitive supporting the plaintive in her civil case. Like I keep saying, it's not something I'm really concerned with, and she is a very difficult person to feel sympathetic for, but the public has a tendency to over react to these things

According to the civil suit against her, the racial slurs, racist jokes and sexual harassment is not in the past. That's the point of the lawsuit. Deen will have her day in court; however, if I'm running a business or a network, I do not want someone accused of such things representing me until and unless they have been exonerated.

I just read an article stating that allegedly her black employees were paid with beer instead of money.

Re: Paula Deen Fired

I didn't read the article but if her contract wasn't renewed over something she said many many years ago then that's kind of messed up.

As for racial pejoratives I personally think it makes anyone using them look and sound dumb and ignorant but that's just me

The comments in question were made in reference to her brother's 2007 wedding. She told her staff that she wanted the servers to all be black men in order to emulate a Civil War Era style wedding.

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/lawsuit-...arassment-racism-at-their-seafood-restaurant/

Lisa Jackson, a former manager at the Savannah, GA-based Uncle Bubba’s Oyster House, filed the suit, claiming that Deen and her brother contributed to a “hostile work environment” by condoning sexual harassment and racism at the restaurant.

The 33-page complaint also alleges that Deen made the following racist remark while planning her brother’s 2007 wedding:

I want a true southern plantation-style wedding… I would really like a bunch of little n****rs to wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties, you know in the Shirley Temple days… [n]ow that would be a true southern wedding wouldn’t it? But… the media would be on me about that.

Would over reacting entail multiple posts in a forum about this topic? If so, you're guilty?

Re: Paula Deen Fired

According to the civil suit against her

Right, according to a civil suite

That's the point of the lawsuit.

But the mere existence of a lawsuit doesn't exactly establish anything, while your above language seems to take a more affirmative view of the matter

right, and the court of public opinion is hardly fair, impartial or even rational. I mean, do you think people should be fired due a bunch of morons not knowing what a blackhole is?

As I
