Judge Edith Jones of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals will be subjected to a rarely used disciplinary review process to address alleged racist and discriminatory comments made earlier this year. In a letter released Thursday, Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts determined that the accusations against Jones, a conservative judge based in New Orleans, should be heard in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. "I have selected the Judicial Council of the District of Columbia Circuit to accept the transfer and to exercise the powers of a judicial council with respect to the identified complaint and any pending or new complaints relating to the same subject matter," Roberts wrote.

The complaint alleges that Jones said certain "racial groups like African-Americans and Hispanics are predisposed to crime," and that they are "prone to commit acts of violence" and be involved in more violent and "heinous" crimes than people of other ethnicities. The judge also allegedly said Mexicans would prefer to be on death row in the U.S. than serve prison terms in their native country, and that it's an insult for the U.S. to look to the laws of other countries such as Mexico.

Where are all the black conservatives posters defending this woman's freedon of speech?

Re: Edith Jones, Federal Judge, Faces Rare Supreme Court-Ordered Review Over Racist R

An interesting turn of events for Edith Jones.

I think this is the same Judge who told the Federalist Society at an address at Harvard Law School back in 2003 that "the american legal system is corrupted beyond recognition." How right she was, just 18 months after the so-called Patriot Act was passed.

She has a sharp tongue, it appears, and a perceptive mind.

Thanks for that NB! Kloster did a good job in his article. She sounds like a straight shooter to me.

Looks like the politically correct police are in full force on this one, just because it is not politically correct does not make what she said illegal

Re: Edith Jones, Federal Judge, Faces Rare Supreme Court-Ordered Review Over Racist R

Where are all the black conservatives posters defending this woman's freedon of speech?

What'd she say that's racist? She certainly didn't say anything that isn't true; especially in New Orleans.

You think black people are predisposed towards crime?

You think black people are predisposed towards crime?

Show us some nunbets that show another conclusion. Was it you that claimed to have lived in New Orleans?

I think crime is related to social and economic issues that are more prevalent among blacks and Latinos. This is not the same thing as being predisposed to crime.

You literally think black people are genetically hardwired to be violent? Seriously?

Re: Edith Jones, Federal Judge, Faces Rare Supreme Court-Ordered Review Over Racist R

I think crime is related to social and economic issues that are more prevalent among blacks and Latinos. This is not the same thing as being predisposed to crime.

That actually comports with her supposed statement. She said groups, not individuals. Not to mention you're saying that the causes of crime are more prevelent in these groups - same thing as what she's saying.

Re: Edith Jones, Federal Judge, Faces Rare Supreme Court-Ordered Review Over Racist R

You think black people are predisposed towards crime?

As a group? Yeah, I think that's been proven.

So either you don't understand what predisposed means, she doesn't understand what predisposed means, or both.

You're saying that these certain groups are mired in social and economic issues that PREDISPOSE them to crime.

You're saying that these certain groups are mired in social and economic issues that PREDISPOSE them to crime.

That predisposition does not stem from being black, which is the implication you give when you say "black people are predisposed towards..."

Re: Edith Jones, Federal Judge, Faces Rare Supreme Court-Ordered Review Over Racist R

You think black people are predisposed towards crime?

Yes.

Cliffs: the disparity in homicide rates btwn Latinos and whites are explained by economic factors. With blacks, that's not the case.

The author continues on so that he doesn't sound like a racist by offering some theories that likely don't hold water, but to anyone not making excuses the message is clear.

Well, I'm glad you came to terms with the reality that blacks and Hispanics are predisposed to criminal activity. Good for you!!

You literally think black people are genetically hardwired to be violent? Seriously?

It's ok to admit you're wrong, without putting words into my mouth.

It's you that doesn't know what, "predisposed", means. It's called a dictionary, Deuce.

You are basically agreeing with her when you say "crime is related to social and economic issues that are more prevalent among blacks and latinos". No where in the quotes was it mentioned about it being genetic. You may have said it in a more politically correct way but it is the same statement. Maybe there was more said but from the quotes posted I see nothing racist or false about what she said.

Race/Ethnicity and Gender Differences in Drug Use and Abuse Among College Students

According to the 2003 NSDUH, 38.2% of White young adults 18 to 25 years of age in the U.S. reported any illicit drug use in the past year, followed by African-American (30.6%) and Hispanic (27.5%) young adults.

The study also found that the prevalence of marijuana use was highest for White college students, followed by Hispanic, Asian, and African American students. Other national studies based on the CAS data have found similar racial/ethnic differences in ecstasy use (The following popper user interface control may not be accessible. Lovely little anti-racist rant. Generally those sorts of things are a disguise for the poster's own guilty feelings. Especially when they are off as this one is. Try calculating in proportion, population size.
